Yours Always, Esme Cullen
Twirling my caramel hair, I was reading one of my romance novels. "Hmmm Carlisle should be home soon." I whined. I set the book down in one swift motion, and sauntered downstairs. All my kids, sitting, down on the couch for the first time in months, and I presume Bella was off in her own little world. "Hey there mom!" Emmet yelled, although I could hear him perfectly without it. Ah, yes my Emmet the jokester. I nodded my head in a slight gesture and he turned back his attention somewhere else. My gaze fell upon Alice, and Rosalie those two had a special place somewhere in my motionless heart.
The sound of crunching gravel alerted me of my husband's arrival. Carlisle, a secret smile played across my face and a squeal emitted from my mouth. The kids turned around to stare at me, and they knew Carlisle would soon walk through the door. The brass knob turned and the man I always loved walked straight through …and right past me. Carlisle set his lab coat, and his suitcase down on the floor and walked to his office shutting the door.
Panic and confusion filled my face as I walked through the sun-kissed corridor. I turned the door ever so slightly to reveal Carlisle and his face buried in his hands. "Carlisle?" I whispered wrapping my arms around his torso. "Dear, it's very stressful working in the office, can I have my time?" Hurt overcame me and I recoiled my hands because of it. Carlisle turned to look at me, but I was already gone sprinting down the hallway.
"Mom?" Alice questioned. "What's wrong?" I could only stifle one look at my daughter and rushed down to the room. I couldn't cry, stupid vampire…all that came out of me was sobs with no tears…none. A soft knock came from the door, and Rosalie out of all my kids came to my side. "Mom, I hate human emotions it's bothering me." They rarely even notice me, it was a shock that made me smile. I looked down at the floor, and Rosalie laid her hand on my back. "I like your shoes," I giggled. Rosalie smiled and rolled her eyes. "Stop acting sad Es, you can't, not love Carlisle, I hope you know that."
Rosalie, mmmm. Another knock came from the door, I couldn't turn around before Rosalie bolted out the room. Carlisle…I folded my arms and swiveled around to face the wall. "Esme, I didn't mean it." I looked at him, stood up and gave him a hug. I stood on my tiptoes and brushed my lips against his. No, I couldn't be mad at him never.
With his hand around my waist, we went downstairs. The living room was chaos, Alice was pacing the length of the floor, the couches were over turned and the boys stood shakily in the middle of the floor. When they saw me coming, I swear their moods vanished and they rushed up to me with all their un-ending energy. Carlisle looked at them and back to me and back to them. With one quick nod of my head, they flipped the couch and took position as they were.
Later that night, I was sitting up into bed with Carlisle at my side looking over the charts. For the third time, a knock came at my door and it opened slowly, Rosalie, again. She shuffled over to my side like a 5 year old and bent down to my ear. "I told you so," and gave me a devilish smile. Carlisle looked at me, and all I told him was, "It's nothing."
