Mistaken Message
Jackie was sitting up in bed reading a romance novel late at night after her kids had been put to bed when her cell phone buzzed, indicating she had a text message. It was from Nick "Hey are you still awake? Not much going on at the lab tonight so I'm bored and thought I'd give you a call."
Jackie smiled "Yep I'm awake, I'm pregnant." She typed back and she didn't look at the message before she sent it.
When Nick's phone buzzed he read the message and was shocked.
Just seconds later she got a reply "Wow honey that's amazing, I'm so excited, should I come home?"
When Jackie read what he had written she was puzzled "Is he drunk?" she wondered to herself. "What's amazing and why would you need to come home?" she typed back.
Nick was confused. "I'd come home to celebrate." He wrote back.
"Celebrate what?" Jackie answered confused.
"Um, your news." He messaged back.
"What news?" Jackie asked totally bewildered.
Nick had had enough of this, he dialed her number.
"Hello" Jackie said as she answered the phone.
"Jackie what is going on? You tell me you're pregnant but yet you act like you don't even care?"
Jackie was shocked "Pregnant, what the hell are you talking about Nicky, I'm not pregnant."
"Well that's what you just said." He told her.
"What, I did not." She said.
"Yes you did, when I text you and told you I was bored your reply back said yep I'm awake, I'm pregnant."
Jackie burst out laughing "Damn phone, that was supposed to say "Yep I'm awake, I'm reading."
Once Nick knew what was going on he too burst out laughing. "Oh ok, that makes so much more sense. I was so confused."
"You're not the only one." She admitted.
He chuckled again.
"Do you really think I'd tell you something like that over a text message?" She asked.
"Well I didn't think so at first but then I thought maybe you were totally trying to surprise me, which you did by the way."
"Sorry dear." She said.
"That's ok, hey listen I got to run for now, Russell just called for a family meeting, but thanks for making my night a little more interesting. Love you and I'll see you and the kids in the morning."
"Love you too; glad I could be a source of entertainment for you tonight."
He laughed "Goodnight, goodbye."
"Bye."
"I've really got to pay more attention when I send text messages." Jackie thought to herself as she laid down the phone.
She shook her head at herself before she picked up her book and again begun reading it.
