A/N: Yes, yes, I know. Yet another story for this fandom. At the moment, however, this has nothing to do with a challenge. Instead, this story is based on a roleplay that I'm doing with my older sister. I just completely rewrote most of it, as well as gave it a plot to go with the romance. Personally, I'm super excited about this. It's got a crap-ton of both mine and my sisters head-canons in it, and I hope to get some love from the reviewers!
Tell me what you think, people!
Oh! I would also like to point out that you should just completely ignore the events of how fifth year played out in both the book and the movie. It's no longer important. xD
Seated in his rather magnificant chair at the center of the Teachers Table, Dumbledore took the time to survay the Great Hall. Just like every year, the new students were all clustered near the door with his deputy, McGonnagle, looking just as nervous as they did every year. The older students looked tired and hungry, more than a few even bordering to seem unhappy.
No doubt that was a fact that would change the moment the feast was able to begin. Everyone was always so solemn and sour acting before hand. Even the teachers, to whom there were several extra this year, had an air about them that stated they would be much easier to get along with on a full stomach.
A shame, really, because it was just the opposite for Dumbledore. It just seemed that, no matter how many years he did this, the joy never faded. There was just something magical about watching a new child be welcomed into his new house, his temporary family, and being a part of the bonds that would grow during the next seven years. Still, he had decided before hand that the sorting would not be first this year, not really, and that an announcement had to be made prior to it.
Knees cracking, Dumbledore lifted himself from his seat. He cleared his throat to gain everyone's attention, and as soon as all was quiet he began to speak. It didn't take long for the hall to fall into silence - but then, it never did.
"Welcome back students, and to all of the new comers, welcome! Before we start off with the sorting, I'd like to quickly introduce our new teachers and welcome back an old one." he announced, waving one hand lavishly to his right. "One shall be aiding Professor Remus Lupin, who has returned for another year, and the other shall be leading a new class."
There was a moment when anything else he might have said was drowned out, as most of the older students sprung from their seats in a cheer. It seemed that, until he'd been pointed out to them, not a single child had noticed the fact that Remus was back among them. Dumbledore waited until the hall once more fell quite to turn his gaze onto the other two new additions.
"I would like to introduce Professor's Liza Wilks, who shall be leading us in our first Alchemy class, mandatory to all Third Years and above, and Perry Heinz, who shall be aiding in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classes!" Clapping rose from the students as Dumbledore returned his gaze to them. "I'm sure you all are very hungry, but of course there is the matter of sorting the new students into houses."
There were a few sighs and a couple of 'aws'. He just chuckled and sat back down as Mcgonagal brought out the sorting hat. The stern looking woman wasted no time in pulling out a scroll and called the first name.
"Aarons, Mathew."
And, just like that, the new year began. Exactly the same as every year prior to it in almost every way, yet different in the small things. Small things that would, in the long run, make all of the difference.
