Zuko was sleepwalking. He was lucky that Aang got up to use the bathroom, or he would have walked off the Western Air Temple and into the chasm below. The next morning, he didn't remember a thing. Aang decided to ask his other bending masters to take turns watching the nightmare-plagued prince.

Katara looked worried, "You didn't try to wake him, did you? He could really hurt you." "I know," Aang replied. "He's a really powerful bender."

Late that night, Katara followed Zuko out into the courtyard. The moon was full, and she knew that she could handle him. She suspected that he was faking, anyway. He walked over to the edge of the fountain, sprawled on the edge, and slept. Well, she thought, this should be easy.

Katara approached him slowly, and when she was within sight of his eyes, bent small drops of water onto his face. He sat up and stared at her. She fell into a bending stance, ready to defend herself.

Zuko stood up, looked her in the eyes and said, "You have to help me save the turtle-ducks." He climbed into the fountain in panic, and started miming throwing crumbs into the water. "I'll get them over here," he whispered, "when they get here, grab them." Then he spread his hands out over the water, and stood very still. "Quick, take them, before Azula gets back. She's going to bend lightning at them. She's going to fry the whole pond! She'll zap all the babies to make crispy duck for her dinner!" He started to "toss" ducks in Katara's direction. She was so stunned, she pretended to catch them.

"Why aren't you running, stupid ducks!" Zuko jumped out of the water, and bent over double, waving his hands around in shooing motions. "Go away!" Then he grabbed Katara by the waist and pulled her down with him behind the other side of the fountain. He was listening, and the color drained from his face. Suddenly, he pushed her down and covered her with his body, briefly pinning her to the ground. He winced, and she felt him shaking. "She's gone."

He stood up very quickly, swayed on his feet, and sounded confused when he said, "I'm really tired." She answered in her best mom voice, "it's time to go to sleep, Zuko." "Yes, sleep" his head was drooping, and he started to fall over. Katara caught him, surprised by how heavy he was. Heavy and hot. Very hot. And sweaty. She rested him on the ground, and pulled his head into her lap.

He was mumbling something. She leaned down to hear him. His eyes opened, and he smiled at…her necklace? He reached out, running one finger around the pendant, his eyes filled with something like hunger. Then he said, perhaps to someone else, "you are much too pretty for me."
