Prologue
I'm not seen as I'm supposed to be seen. The Clan treats me badly because I was never supposed to be born. Firstly, I'm a medicine cat's kit. Secondly, my father's from another Clan, and finally, my grandfather was Tigerstar. Who would want a cat like me in their Clan?
Pebblefoot, my mentor, thinks I'm not worth RiverClan's reputation. My mother, Mothwing, calls me a mistake; she may not believe in StarClan, but her connection to the warrior code is strong and deep.
Mistystar is grudging but accepting. I know she doesn't want me here, but she feels burdened by the reputation of her great mother, Bluestar, probably one of the best leaders the forest has ever known.
And so I live in this half-existence, not wanted anywhere – a loner, someone no cat would ever accept. Why would anyone want me, anyway? According to ShadowClan, I'm a HalfClan brat. According to WindClan, I'm a disloyal warrior, untrue to every cat I meet. My heart will never rest. ThunderClan…they say RiverClan should accept me but they're nothing more than a Clan of KITTYPETS! I have warrior blood running through my veins, pure and true. I am not some kittypet that the kittypet Firestar takes in at the drop of a leaf; and I'm no outcast, either.
I don't deserve such treatment from my Clan. I can't help being born this way! It was my mother's fault. If there's anyone to blame, it should be my mother. But she's already fallen foul to slander and abuse by the other cats. They talk about us in the same class, as if we were the same. We're not! I am so much higher than her, so much higher than she could ever be!
Why is it that I must be compared to her? Why is it that I must be compared to Tigerstar? I am the nephew of the deputy of ThunderClan, Brambleclaw. Why can't I be compared to him, to show that I am a loyal warrior?
I am not accepted here. Long ago, maybe I would have been – but not here, not now.
No one loves me.
No one wants me.
I'm not wanted.
A/N: I've neglected this story for a while, and now I'm bringing it back to life. I know this chapter is a little short, but my next chapter will be longer. I will not post the next chapter, however, unless I get 10 reviews.
I will be altering from whose perspective the story is told. One chapter will be my main character, Butterflypaw, and the other chapter will be someone else…
