Oh, how Emma was dreading this dinner party. First, it was at Regina's. That alone was reason enough to dread the gathering. Two, she likely wouldn't know anyone there except Regina. The party was reserved for the employees of the town government, and from what she understood, that actually consisted of fewer people than one might expect. Third, she had to dress up. The invitation had been clear about that.
Damn it all.
Emma smirked. Well, she had that last part taken care of, anyway. And she knew Regina would hate her for it. Emma examined herself in the mirror. She straightened her black tie and took in the rest of her appearance. She wore a black suit with deliciously high black heels. The mayor would flip. At least she could look forward to that.
With a sigh, Emma left Mary Margaret's and headed for the Mayor's house.
Emma knocked firmly on the door when she arrived. She wasn't at all excited, but she wouldn't give the mayor the satisfaction of knowing how much she dreaded the evening—of knowing how anxious she was.
Regina answered the door quickly. Emma sucked in a breath. The mayor was wearing a simple green dress that clung tightly to her chest, and flared slightly where it ended just above her knees. Emma decided quickly that green was her new favorite color, before shaking her head. She looked up in time to see Regina's eyes skimming her body as well. She was clearly taken aback by Emma's attire. Emma smirked. But when Regina looked up and met her eyes, Emma noticed they had darkened considerably. Maybe the suit hadn't exactly had the intended reaction. In an instant, Regina had reassumed her composure.
"Come in, Miss Swan," Regina's voice dripped with apparent disdain as she motioned behind her. "You're late. Take a seat at the dinner table."
Emma sat down, glancing at the other guests anxiously. She was right; although she knew the faces, there was no one there who she would feel comfortable engaging in conversation. Emma sighed lightly. Regina raised an eyebrow at her as she took her seat… next to Emma.
A typical chatter descended on the dinner table. Emma envied the way Regina easily talked with each of the guests. The mayor even occasionally addressed her, as though trying to include her. But whenever Regina turned the conversation to Emma, the sheriff noticed, she led with what could be interpreted as subtle innuendoes, or licked her lips lightly. The other guests didn't seem to notice, but Emma definitely did.
And then it happened. Emma moved to pour herself more wine, and someone bumped into her elbow, effectively dousing her suit. She glanced over her shoulder, to see Regina's eyes staring at her intently. "Really, dear, do you have to be so clumsy?" Regina smirked.
Emma gaped, at a loss for words.
Regina sighed. "Come on," she said, grabbing the other woman's elbow and leading her out of the dining room. When they were out of sight, Regina grabbed Emma's tie and led her up the stairs. Before Emma could protest, she was on the bed in the mayor's room.
Emma sucked in a breath as Regina closed the door behind her and prowled over toward the bed, swaying her hips dangerously. "You know the invitation said black tie optional. You didn't have to take it so literally." Regina moved a knee on either side of Emma's legs, straddling her as her green dress rode up to her hips. "I've wanted to get you out of that atrocious thing all evening anyway," the brunette teased, grabbing Emma's tie and pulling her up for a kiss. She nipped at Emma's bottom lip, and the blonde moaned, granting Regina entrance. Their tongues dueled heatedly before they had to break the kiss, both out of breath.
Emma smirked up at Regina, "Really, Madam Mayor. If you wanted the suit off, all you had to do was ask."
