She was in the bathroom sitting on the edge of the bathtub. She stared at the little plastic stick in her hand, the screen had two little pink lines on it. The second was blurry, but it was there.

She rubbed her teary eyes and threw the thing away. She trashed it in the essence of her worries; if you don't think about them eventually they will go away. But this wont, she'd have to buy new clothes in a matter of weeks.

Open the floodgates, because she couldn't hold it in any longer. She sobbed as she slid into the tub curling into a ball on its floor.

She shouldn't be crying, Her biological clock had been ticking, she wanted to be a mother so bad it hurt sometimes. But now her baby would never have a real father. he was married.

The night was a stupid drunken fling with her co-worker while he and his wife had been taking a break. There were so many things wrong with that sentence she thought she should arrest herself for adultery.

They thought they were okay, she was on the pill. But its only 99% effective and they had been caught. They slipped through the cracks and were falling. This wasn't his child though. This was her responsibility alone. He could pretend nothing had ever happened between the two. He could float and watch her plummet into a web of secrets.

Her watch beeped, it was officially time to leave for work.

She got our of the tub and wiped her eyes. Then she stuffed her gun into the holster on her belt and left her apartment, locking it gingerly as she exited.

A half an hour later she walked into the squad room and he was there sitting across from her desk like he had been everyday for the past six years.

She sat down and waited for him to say something like her always did.

"Are you okay? You look like you've been through the emotional ringer." his voice was soft, kind, and compassionate as always.

She looked into his deep blue eyes," I'm fine."

He didn't believe her and she knew it but she didn't care. He shrugged it off and set a cup of coffee on her desk.

She gazed and the dark-black, liquid-energy. She wanted it so bad she had to bite her lip to keep herself from grabbing it and quaffing it down. She couldn't have it, he life was going to change from this moment on and she could do nothing about it.

A feeling of pure defeat came over her, and she sobbed burying her head in her hands. She was definitely not fine.
