His eyes weren't always green. They were hazel, like his fathers'. When he was born, and in the year that followed, anyone who saw the happy, bright-eyed infant would always comment on how he would look exactly like his daddy when he grew up. Lily and James loved their little boy more then life itself, so when they heard the prophecy, it came as a horrible shock. Their baby, the light of their lives, was destined to kill or be killed? They knew what they had to do, and they went into hiding. When Sirius refused to be their secret keeper because he would be too obvious they secretly and nervously changed to Peter. Then, that dreadful Halloween night came, the night that they heard the wards come crashing down, and Voldemort's horrible, evil laughter ringing in their ears. Again, they knew what they had to do.

"Lily!" James cried out, "Take Harry and run!" She ran upstairs to get her beloved son from his bedroom, when he heard something that made her freeze in fear, "Avada Kedavra!" Then, a thump and the sounds of footsteps coming up the only staircase in the house. She and her son were trapped. He entered the room and gave Lily a predatory smile and turned his wand on the baby.

"NO!" Lily screamed, hiding the infant behind her back, "Leave him alone! Take me instead! Don't kill him!" Tears were streaming down her cheeks. Voldemort moved his wand, and for a second, Lily felt relief, but he turned it just a bit so it was pointed at her.

"Avada Kedavra!" He hissed. Lily stood straight and defiant until the green light hit her and she crumpled, dead. Voldemort then turned his wand on Harry who had crawled onto his mother and was staring, unblinkingly, at the man before him.

"Avada Kedavra!" Harry didn't turn away or blink, he just stared, curiously, at the green light speeding toward him. When the light hit the little boy's forehead, it expanded and glowed, then shot back out towards the one who cast it. If anyone had been there to see, they would have seen those curious hazel eyes turn a dazzling, killing-curse, emerald green. Just like his mothers'.
