Disclaimer: I do not own Negima.

Someone mentioned some time ago (on the TVTropes Negima Fanfiction Thread) how you never see Gandalf cast a spell. That prompted this.

Just a Gardener

He was quite proud of his granddaughter. She had taken to Magic like a duck to water. From what both Negi and Eva had told him, she would be quite powerful indeed when she could fully use her Healing abilities.

Obviously she had inherited that from her grandmother. Because she certainly didn't inherit it from him.

He still could not believe how far he had come with no magical aptitude whatsoever. Hell, even Takamichi had more magical ability than he did, and all he used it for was to power his Kanko technique.

Everyone around him believed that he had woven subtle magics around the Academy that allowed him to keep ahead of anyone or anything trying to threaten the World Tree. Even the denizens of Mundus Magicus believed him to be a powerful mage.

It was better to let them believe that than it was to tell the truth: The World Tree acted on its own. He had nothing to do with it.

All he did was take care of it. As his father before him had. As he hoped his granddaughter would eventually.

It was strange though how spry he was for a man his age. But he knew why he was still able to move and act like a man half his age.

Take care of Nature, and Nature will take care of you. Simple as that.
