Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!. Now let's get on with it, shall we?
Author's notes: I've always wanted to do a fic like this... And that is all.
Turnabout
The water was frigid, just cold enough to snap Joey back into reality, to keep tears from falling on his face. Amber eyes glared back at the reflection before him, only moving to follow Tristan as he sauntered inside.
"You're still here?" The brunette man grumbled to his long time friend. "I've been looking everywhere for you!"
"Well, sorry, Tristan, but I don't think I can do this..." Two fists that were tattered from scars from the past trembled on the hard counter. "This...it's just too big a step for me."
"But...but this is Yugi! You can't just turn your back on your best buddy like that! When's the last time he's done that to you?"
Joey sighed. "...never."
"That's right." Tristan's hand patted Joey's back in hopes that it'd get him out of this rut. "Which is why I really know you can and should do this. I wanna see the Joey who'd leap into harm's way to rescue Yugi, not a sniveling wimp who'd run away like a scared little puppy."
"Okay, I think the 'puppy' thing has been way overdone." Joey smirked back at Tristan. "It's been what, ten years?"
Tristan laughed, ignoring that comment. "By the way, nice tux."
"I knew ya'd say that, Mr. Blue-Looks-So-Much-Better-On-You," Joey replied, eyeing the black suit that he originally wanted that Tristan wore. He smoothed his golden hair back before confronting his immediate fears head-on.
On the way outside, Tristan playfully pushed Joey forward, causing him to nearly lose his balance. The brunette took his place at the front before Joey could chase after him.
"Joey, watch out!" Gentle hands braced themselves for impact against Joey's shoulders.
"Oh, Yuge..." Joey dipped his head downwards only slightly--such a relief from all the times he had to bend so far downwards in the past. He smiled at the bouquet of flowers in Yugi's hands. Angelic white was perfect for the former King of Games, just like the tuxedo he wore.
Yugi returned the smile. "I'm glad you're okay." Lovingly, he took Joey's hand and kissed the solid gold ring on his finger. "You know, we've been through so much together..."
"...And we'll do it all over again." Joey kissed Yugi's cheek. With joined hands, the two marched to the end of the aisle, listening to the chorus of cheering.
So, what did you think? Speak now, or forever hold your peace.
