The phone was ringing.
Alex glared at the phone. The phone glared back.
"Chandler," Alex shouted, "Chandler!"
"What!" called Chandler (and the phone) from the loft.
"Get the phone."
Chandler got the phone.
"Hello?" Chandler answered, pushing a strand of brown hair away from his face. "This is Chandler."
And that was when Alex and Chandler's world was destroyed in an explosion of despair, hopelessness, and $9.99,100% premium A grade, grass fed Tofurky.
As their landlord droned smugly into the phone, Chandler motioned Alex over, whispering to him, "He says we need to move out in the next 48 hours."
"I thought we had a week! What happened?" cried Alex, distressed.
"I think he was jealous of our $9.99,100% premium A grade, grass fed Tofurky," he replied, winking seductively. "It's okay, Alex. We can move on time if we stay up. Our new house is better than this place anyway. Now we get to move early." Chandler gently rested his hand on Alex's shoulder.
"No you don't understand!" snapped Alex, alarmed. He thought of all the hours he had spent convincing his friends to help him move in a week. "I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter," he explained, "I had to fall to lose it all. But in the end, it doesn't even matter."
"Shhh," comforted Chandler, "Nothing we can do about it now. If we start now, we might be finished before midnight."
"Okay," sighed Alex, leaning into Chandler.
Five hours later, Alex and Chandler reclined in the soft bed of their new house. It would be difficult to adjust to their new environment, but they knew they would succeed with the magic of friendship, love, and $9.99,100% premium A grade, grass fed Tofurky.
