It was the year 2382 on the planet Sadalbri Alphus in the Izta sector, and well I was just a boy as looking up at the stars wondering what else would be out there. Ever since our home world's leaders where actually aliens that had been infiltrating our government for decades, we were sent off (the two billion of us that is) to colonise anew planet for there ever expanding empire. Many sore opportunity working in the cold dark mines of district 14 or the humongous power plants of district 7, I was one of those people. The second I was old enough I left my family behind at district 6 and climbed aboard a city flyer heading for the power plants.
I was slotted in for engineering since I got a degree back home. I would go from one broken thing to another all day long fixing computer terminals that controlled the reactors output to the main reactor its self. In that reactor I found something, it was starting to overload, so I called command as fast as I could. (why the rush you may ask, well if this reactor fully overloads it could would bring the whole planet into a black out that would last for weeks) The main feeders where the source of the issue so they said they would send some kid from district 11, they said he was a marvel at the academy so I had high hopes.
One day on my lunch break the boys and I were watching the hollow relay where the show we were watching abruptly cut out to and changed to the usual news man sounding very distressed. Apparently a rival empire called the Tendra-Zhun had attacked our orbital station called the Gargoyle. The station was saved by a fleet of our empires ships, but not before the station was mostly destroyed and some of the districts that worked on power and apparently we were next on their list of targets. None the less our planet fell into an energy crisis and before it was resolved the station had been left half-finished repairs to orbit the planet in solitude.
I staid working at the plant for 40 years when I finally went into retirement at the luxurious hot springs of district 4. I regret never leaving this rock and not exploring the ever expanding galaxy,
I wish I was like that kid from district 11 who now I have learnt is traveling the universe In a freighter.
I wonder what his story is….
