Chapter one

"Mommy, where are you?" Mara yelled up and down the street looking for her mom.

The frightened little girl was very scared and it was getting dark quick. She had become separated while her mom was street shopping. She sat down on an empty crate, shivering, scared, and crying.

Suddenly, she jumped as she heard a small whimper.

"H…hello?" she asked, both scared and unsure.

The whimper came again.

Mara crept over to where she heard the sound.

She looked in a crate that was not far from where she was sitting. There was a wolf pup, which was also lost.

"Hello" Mara said to the wolf pup, carefully staying a safe distance incase the pup tried to bite.

The pup let small yip as if trying to say "hello" back.

Mara inched her way forward to the pup, being careful trying not to scare the pup any more than what it was.

Quietly, she let the wolf pup get her sent of the back of her hand and pulled it out of the crate.

"So you're a girl" she said after quickly observing the pup's gender and setting her down on the ground.

Mara observed the young pup. The wolf pup looked about five weeks old. She was completely white, which was very rare in this area. This was very strange to Mara, especially since wolf pups are usually are with their mother and pack.

"Do you have a mom?" she asked the pup.

The happy pup just cocked her head. And as if she understood, let out a low sad whimper. This time, Mara cocked her head. Some how, just some how, Mara understood what the pup was saying.

"I don't know were she is," said a small voice on Mara's head.

Mara jumped up.

"Who said that?" she asked looking around.

"I did," said the voice again.

Mara looked down at the wolf pup.

"You said that?" Mara asked with a confused look on her face.

"Yep, I said it. Could you help me find her?" asked the wolf pup with a sad look on her face.

Mara paused for a moment. If she said yes, then it would be too dark to find her mom. If she said no, then she would have a disappointed wolf pup.

"Why don't we look for both our moms tomorrow," she said scratching the pup behind the ears.

"Ok," the pup yapped happily.

Suddenly, it hit Mara. She didn't know the pup's name.

As if the wolf pup was reading her mind, she answered.

"My name is Lady. What's yours?"

"My name is Mara," Mara replied.

She looked at the setting sun in the distance.

"I guess we should go find some place to sleep tonight," suggested Lady.

"Good idea and I know the perfect place," Mara said as she started walking to Ichiraku Ramen Bar.
