Korra,

How is the recovery going? It's been six months since you left, and Team Avatar feels empty without, who else, their Avatar! It's been far too long since I've heard from you. I'm sorry I hadn't written to you before now. If I was honest, I was really hoping to get a letter from you. We all were, I mean. Mako and Bolin were hoping to have heard from you by now. Everyone is trying to give you your space, of course, but mostly we're just missing our Avatar.

Things are pretty much the same here, except for not at all. Kuvira, Su's prodigy, has been uniting the Earth Kingdom. Bolin wants to join her and help his people. Mako is still on the police force, but they're talking about making him the body guard of the young Earth Prince. His name is...I don't remember. He sucks. You would hate him! I saw him in the city the other day and he was combing his eyebrows. COMBING HIS EYEBROWS KORRA. WITH A COMB. Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous? I'm laughing now just writing it to you!

Things are different with me too. I'm working on a new invention! My company is pioneering a whole new way of flight! I could describe it to you, but it's the kind of thing you have to see. I live on Air Temple Island some weeks, just to get away and work on plans alone. Sato mansion feels empty without anyone else in it, like it's not even mine. Air Temple Island though, that's different. It's...home. I'm not a bender, and it's been a long time since I've wished I was one, but I love staying here. The air benders are flying around on little balls of air, and Milo keeps flying his lemur at my window. (He turns away before anyone gets hurt, or anything gets broken, but still!) The only thing missing here is you. Please write me back. I want to hear from you. Tell me how things are. What's Naga doing? How are your mom and dad? Anything from you would be welcome, and I hope you write me back!

Love,

Asami.

Asami had put the letter in the mail with no hope, but a few weeks later she received a response. She tore into it in her office, happy to finally hear from her friend.

Asami,

Things are...great. I'm glad to hear about everyone. I know I haven't been writing nearly as much as I should, but I've just been so busy. There's so much happening up here. I've been working with Katara, and playing with Naga, and just trying to get back to myself and I'm having a great time doing so.

I'm lying. I intended to write this entire letter like a sunny day, and I can't. Things are terrible Asami. I still can't walk. I can't even do more than move my big toe. I want to be the Avatar. I want to be more than I am right now. Kuvira's uniting the Earth Kingdom when the Avatar should at the very least be by her side helping show support. I should be doing almost anything except for what I am doing, which is wheeling around in a chair and being jealous of Naga's physical freedom. Everyone keeps telling me patience is key. Patience is what will get me better. I can't take anymore patience. If I get anymore patient I'll be dead. I need something to change and I have no idea how to fix this. I have no idea how to change what Zaheer did to me. I miss you. Don't tell the boys I've written to you. I knew I could say this to you, but I don't know what to say to them just yet. I wish I could see you, but I'm stuck here until I'm better. Stay safe.

Love,

Korra

Asami dropped the letter on her desk. She could feel the pain. She could feel the heartbreak. Korra's frustration poured through the letter, and it was then Asami knew what she needed to do. Asami phoned home to the Sato mansion. The butler picked up, and Asami quickly said, "Hello, it's Asami. Will you please pack me clothes for a few months. I intend to stay with the Southern Water Tribe, so please pack warm."

The Butler answered in his calm professional way. "Of course Miss Sato, will there be anything else?"

"No, that's all. I have business arrangements I will make myself."

"Very well, Miss Sato, it will be done." He made to hang up, and Asami caught his attention.

"Wait!"

"Yes, Miss Sato?"

"While I'm gone, I want you to take a break. Keep the house in order of course, but take two weeks off. Travel. Stay in a hotel. Enjoy the plays I know you like so much. You may charge them to me. Make sure someone takes care of you for a change."

"Thank you Miss Sato." Asami could hear the smile in his voice. "When should I expect you?"

"I'll be back to the house in thirty minutes. Please have everything in order by then."

"Of course. I will see to it, Asami."

Asami hung up the phone smiling. He only called her Asami when he was feeling particularly pleasant. She had told him plenty of times to call her Asami, and he usually refused. Asami's heart fluttered as she thought about what she was to do. She phoned the captain of her private ship and told him her plans. He sounded excited to finally be about to go back on the water, and her plan was set. She was going to see Korra.

Korra sat in her chair, frustrated again. It had been six months and she had seen little progress. She watched her toes flutter, but do little more. Korra tried again. "It isn't working!" She yelled at Katara, who watched her patiently with knowing eyes. "What!?" Korra yelled, unleashing her frustration at the closest target.

"Let's take a break Korra."

"A break from what? I've done nothing!" Korra threw down the towel she was holding. "I am nothing!" She bent her head forward, avoiding Katara's eyes. "I have nothing." A tear rolled down her cheek.

"Korra," Katara's patient voice broke into Korra's thoughts. "Korra, look at me." Korra looked up, angrily wiping her cheek, hiding her shame. "You are Korra. You are the daughter of Tonraq and Senna. You are friends with Asami, Bolin, Mako, and many other people. You are part of my family. Part of Tenzin's family. You are a water bender, a fire bender, an airbender, an earth bender, and a metal bender. You're an energy bender. You are The Avatar." Her steely eyes pierced Korra. Korra scoffed.

"You said Avatar last."

"And?"

"No one ever does that." Korra looked back down. "I'm always The Avatar first. Everything else comes second."

Katara took a step toward Korra, grabbing her chin in a steel-like grip. "You are Korra first. Always, Korra first. Who you are is more important than what you are. When you focus on getting yourself better, rather than becoming what you believe people need you to be, you will heal. You will succeed." Katara let go of Korea. Korra rubbed her chin. "Now, are you ready to try again?"

Korra nodded, ready to move her toes again. Katara was nothing if not motivational. "I'm sorry Katara. I'm ready."

"Good." Katara pulled the healing waters from the pool, wrapping the water around Korra's lower legs and feet. "We will try again."

Korra took a deep breath and focused on her toes, trying to move them. She was going to prove to Katara that she could do it. She was more than what people needed.
