So with everything happening on Grey's right now with Derek and Meredith, I wanted to do a little short one shot of why Derek and Meredith love each other.

They weren't that couple, the couple that held hands all the time or called each other pet names like, "honey" or "sweet heart" that wasn't them. His way of showing physical attraction in public was placing his hand on her lower back (which she loved) and the only nickname she liked was being called Mer. He had his own way of showing how much he loved her when they were out and when it looked like people were watching them but they didn't care about what people thought of them, they were happy and in love.
His favourite scent was lavender because of her conditioner and she loved the smell of his aftershave. When they were apart she called each other all the time (whenever they were both free) and when they were together they ate lunch and talked about how each other's day went. Yet, they weren't the type of couple who had to spend every moment of the day with each other it was a plus and they loved it. They each went out with their friends and had couples nights but their favourite moment was at the end of the day, just relaxing in bed, under the covers.
He believed in true love, soul mates, and fairy tales but she didn't. He saw things in black and white, while she saw things in grey. He grew up in a household of women (four sisters and his mother) and she grew up without anyone. He was a band geek in high school while she wore a lot of black and had pink hair; they would have never been friends.
But still, they had a lot in common. They both loved ferryboats, his trailer, his land, cheesecake, neurosurgery, and elevators. They enjoyed watching the sunrise and cuddling in bed after a long day and she helped him cheat at the crossword puzzles.
He always remembered that Tequila was her favourite (and she could take shots like water) and she knew that Scotch was his.
She's dark and twisty and not perfect (even though he thinks so) and doesn't always make the right choices but she fights for what she believes in and is always there for the people she loves (which is why he loves her so much).
They have had a rocky relationship with lots of up and downs but no matter what problems they have to face; they always love each other and remember that they are there for each other.
