"I still don't see the point in you changing your name." Noted Legend.
Taylor shrugged. "Just don't want anyone connecting the dots."
"There's lots of people who share names."
"Call me paranoid, then. I want to be sure."
"You're paranoid."
Taylor smiled.
There was silence for a minute, before Legend sighed. "That's seriously all we can talk about before getting into the serious discussions?"
"Not unless you got a dog or something."
"If you did things other then work all the time, we could talk about your personal life."
Taylor's smile faded.
"This is more important." She stated.
"Come on, Taylor. I already have Contessa and Alexandria talking like saving the world is all that matters."
Taylor sighed. "Walter, I can enjoy the pleasures of life after we save the world. It should only take a few years."
"If your plan works." Countered Legend.
"And if it doesn't, then any time I spend away from the job would be wasted."
The two were silent.
"Look, Walter, I know you mean well. But... I have to do this."
Legend sighed. "Damn it. Fine. Let's get down to business."
Taylor nodded. "Progress on Plan A?"
"Well, here we have good news. We got Jack. Alexandria is bringing him in. They should be here soon, and you can make your pitch."
Taylor smiled. "Good. And the backups?"
Legend shook his head. "Not so good. We can't find anyone who might be able to fix your powers, and Contessa claimed that the best path for that was to wait for a decade or so."
Taylor sighed. "I guess it was too much to hope that we get lucky, huh?"
"It's never too much to hope for something." Legend replied.
"Anything else that needs to be discussed?" Asked Taylor.
Legend paused. "Well... It's not really necessary, but..."
"What is it?"
"The Endbringers." He finished. "You told us that Behemoth was just the first, but you were vague about them."
"Because the Simurgh can change things."
"Yes, I know. But you never mentioned where they come from."
Taylor was quiet for a moment. "It's... Complicated."
"How?"
Taylor bit her lip. "Legend, trust me on this. You're better off not knowing until everything is dealt with."
"Bu-"
"I'm not budging on this, Legend."
Taylor's voice was like steel, and a look in her eyes was all Legend needed before he decided against arguing.
A portal appeared behind Legend, and Alexandria walked through, holding Jack Slash but the neck.
"Got him." Alexandria said.
"Good." Replied Taylor, smiling. "Now let him go. I want to talk to him in private."
Legend opened his mouth to object, but Taylor cut him off with a glare. In silence, both members of the Triumvirate left.
"Jack Slash." Said Taylor. "Before you get any ideas, I'd like to mention that I am friends with a clairvoyant, a teleporter and some of the most powerful people in existence. If you try anything, you will be dead before you can blink."
Jack rubbed his throat. "Noted. Now, why should I wait for the inevitable execution when I could have the quick death now, Miss Herbert?"
"Because you're more useful to me alive." Replied Taylor. "I've talked with your old friend, Harbinger."
Jack smiled. "Oh? What's he going by these days?"
"The Number Man."
Jack gave a short laugh.
"The point is, Jack, I got him to talk about your last conversation. You wanted to be remembered, to be feared. And I might be able to help you with that."
"Being feared by criminals isn't what I meant." Jack objected.
"I didn't mean that either." Taylor countered. "Everyone is going to fear you, if this works."
"And what do you get out of it."
"Me? I get the knowledge that the world is safe."
"And how is saving the world going to make me feared?"
"Because, if things go as plan, people will never know the world was in danger. To them, it would appear that you removed a force of good for the world."
Taylor leaned forward, over her desk. "Jack Slash, how would you like to kill Scion?"
