Always Know Who The Real Enemy Is
Disclaimer: I don't own them, I'm just tweaking a few things.
I begin walking towards the podium. The walk seems never ending, and all that can be heard is a steady drumming. I wish it would stop, all I want is quiet. A crowd begins following me, but I don't care. As I reach the podium, I see them all standing there: Peeta, Haymitch, Johanna, Beetee, Enobaria, and sweet, sweet Annie. We are all that are left of seventy- five years of Hunger Games.
As I get closer, I see my mother off to the side, and all I can think is that I'm sorry for what I'm about to do. I know somewhere in the crowd Gale is watching, and wishing that things were different. On the podium, I can see Plutarch, waiting as always for what I'm about to do next. Coin stands there, exuding confidence while she waits, her clothing as gray as our surroundings. Then I see him, below the podium. Snow, wearing a white rose as always. I stop, finally there.
Coin begins speaking, but I'm not really listening, then she says it. May my aim be as true as my heart is pure. Ha. My aim may be true, but I don't think my heart has been pure for a long time.
As I pull my arrow from its sheath, I speak. "You were right about a couple things."
A small smile flicks across his face, "Really? About what?"
I raise my bow and arrow to him. "It really is the things we love most that destroy us."
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Haymitch looking to Plutarch, both now wondering where this is going, and becoming concerned.
"And the second thing, Miss Everdeen?"
I stare at him. "Always know who the real enemy is." With that, I tilt my bow up and fire.
He turns and watches as Coin falls from her perch on the podium. He turns to me and begins laughing, while I pull my pull out of my pocket. Suddenly, Peeta is there knocking it out of my hand. Throngs of people swarm past us and close in on Snow, who is still laughing. Two guards grab me by the arms and pull me through the crowd away from the podium. Away from Peeta. No longer able to see or hear Snow, I can't help but smile.
