Chapter 1 – You can't save them all.
Kaneki stood still and watched, as all the people he cared for were taken from him. The war-zone that was once the 20th ward is in flames. The snow has stopped, and yet the cold, desolate feeling it lay upon the battlefield remained, a blanket of pure white to mock the impurities of the people... No... Ghouls that lay within it. 'They all deserve it. But not him...' That's all that Kaneki could think as he looked at Hide and the hollow expression on his face. Everybody left at this point, it was not worth fighting this fight any longer after so much bloodshed and so much unnecessary loss. It was time to grow up and realise that it's not a perfect world. If you want something safe you must chose it over all else and dedicate yourself to it. With this in mind Kaneki searched for the one person he has left: Touka. It was selfish of him to think he could keep them all safe. And now he knew what he had to do. It felt sour and wrong, but he had to leave Hide there, on the floor. The CCG will give him the honourable funeral he deserves. They Will. As Kaneki leaves in a hurry the CCG move towards where he stood to see who it was he had left. But then a huge sweep of darkness engulfed the streets as a creature grabbed the body and vanished in an instand. A moment before this event Amon had been told that the Owl was heading in their direction. They Immediately knew... It was him.
Touka was curled up in a ball. Shielding herself from anyone else. All she could think about was Kaneki. How she needs to find him... It was at this moment that Kanki ran into the room.
"Touka!" Kaneki yelled.
She sniffed, whiped the tears from her eyes, and stood up tall and firm.
"Kaneki. Why are you here?" She asked trying to keep herself together.
"Theres nothing left of Anteiku. It's not right. I came so I could know you were well."
Touka knew he wanted her to be safe. She felt comforted, but this is no time to smile. She fell forward into his arms and cried. All she could think of was Hinami and how useless she feels knowing she can't help her.
"Hinami..." Touka whispered weakly.
"Where is she?" Kaneki asked. Realising that Hinami too will need him.
"She was taken... The whole room flashed into darkness for a split second. None of us could see. And she was gone when the light came back after only a moment." She started crying again.
Kaneki stopped to think. He couldn't let Hinami get hurt. But he doesn't want to leave Touka again. It was at this point he realised he wouldn't have a choice. He has to bring Touka with him. But she up for it? Kaneki breathes in, ready to ask her if she'll help him when her hand becomes a firm fist. She tenses her arms and jaw.
"I am going to find her Kaneki." She says with a heavy heart.
"Where do we start?" Kaneki answers.
