Camouflage (Battletech edition)

I was a volunteer in a beat-up 'Mech, huntin' Steiner down,
It was in the FedCom war on Carver 5.
My AC's jammed and I got stuck, way out and all alone.
And I could hear a heavy Lance moving in close right side.

Just then I heard a tree crack and I swung my worthless guns,
And I held on scared while I counted down my fate.
And then a big green Mech, an Atlas, wearing the sign of the Death Marines
Appeared there at my left shoulder and called "wait"

When the pilot moved close beside me he said, "Don't worry lad I'm here,"
"If Steiner wants ter tangle now, he'll have two ter dodge."
I said: "Well, thanks a lot." I told him my name and asked him his.
And he said "The boys just call me Camouflage"

Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
things are never quite the way they seem.
Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
I was awfully glad ter meet this Death Marine

Well I was gonna ask him where he came from when we heard some launchers whine,
And then rockets and missiles flew around our ears.
It was then I saw this Death Marine light a fire in his eye.
And it was strange, but suddenly I forgot my fears.

Well we fought all night, side by side, we took our battle stance,
And I wondered how all weapons missed his Mech,
Cause they seemed to go right through him, just as if he wasn't there,
Then with the morning we both took a chance and ran.

And it was near a riverbank where another Lance came on top of us,
And I thought this was the end and we were had.
Then a Gauss Slug with my name on it came buzzin' through the bush
And that big Atlas he just swat it, with his hand

…Just like it was a fly…

Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
things are never quite the way they seem.
Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
This was a very strange Death Marine

spoken

And then I was sure there was something weird about him, cause when I turned around,
He was pulling a wrecked Mech up from the ground and started chasing the others with it
From here to Kingdom Come.

When he lead me outta danger I saw my camp and said goodbye.
He just waved at me from the treeline and then was gone.

When I got back to my H.Q. I told them about my night,
And the battles I'd fought with a Death Marine named Camouflage.
When I said his name his C.O. gulped and their Medic took my arm,
And led me to a green tent on the right.

He said "You maybe telling true boy, but this here is Camouflage"
And he's been right here since he passed away last night.
..In fact, he's been here all week long..

But before he went, he said "Semper fi" and stated his only wish,
Was to save a volunteer caught in a mirage.
So here, take his Atlas son. He said he wanted you to have it now.
And we both said a prayer for a Death Marine named Camouflage.

Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
things are never quite the way they seem.
Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
He was a very brave Death Marine.

So when I drove his Atlas in another jungle fight; I felt his presence near,
and I heard his voice, that in my mind was lodged.
And I was thankful, cause I was not alone. I'd got some company
From a Death Marine, the boys call "Camouflage"

Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
things are never quite the way they seem.
Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
He was a very brave Death Marine.

Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
things are never quite the way they seem.
Who-o-o-o Camouflage,
He was a very brave Death Marine.

Hup, hey-ho, hey, left... left...
Woah, woah, Camouflage
Hey, hey-ho, ho, left... left...
Woah, woah, Camouflage

Notes: The song "Camouflage" from Stan Ridgway was used as inspiration fer this slight "revamp".
