Author's Note:This is just a story I came up with after watching a Speed Racer: TNG marathon. A small oneshot, set inbetween parts 2 and 3 of 'The Begining', told from X's point of view. Please review! Flames welcome (just keep any foul language to yourself, please)!
Disclaimer:I do not own Speed Racer: The Next Generation.
"I always knew my brother hid his second son away before he disappeared."
"His second son?"
"Yes, X. You see, you were already well known around the world. That made you safe. But your brother was so young... your father thought it best to keep him a secret. Speed, when you showed up at the Academy looking so much like him, I thought maybe... now having seen you next to X and after that business with the Mach 5, I'm convinced. X, say hello to your brother."
"X, say hello to your brother."
My uncle's words rung clearly in my ears.
"X, say hello to your brother."
He said it as if he thought that I wouldn't be monumentally freaked out, as if I wouldn't feel guilty for being so angry at Speed, the kid who turned out to be my brother. My brother. I never thought I'd say those two words together in a sentence like that. My brother. My brother. My brother. No matter how I say it, it sounds... weird.
"X, say hello to your brother."
He said it as if he thought that I would like my new 'older brother' responsibilities. He said it as if I could just... adapt to anything that came my way. Like I was the one who accepted the fact that my dad had left, and probably wasn't coming back, first. Like that didn't tear me apart. Like the fact that I was about a year old automatically says that I don't remember crying my eyes out for the rest of the year. Like... Darn it, X, just stop thinking about it! Concentrate on anything but what you found out yesterday!!! Concentrate on what you'll do for that diarama thing that you have due in history, like next week or so!!! Concentrate on walking to your next class. Concentrate on-
"Hey, X!" An all-too familiar voice called out to me.
"X, say hello to your brother."
"X! I've gotta talk to you!" Speed was being annoyingly persistant.
"X, say hello to your brother. Say hello to your brother. Say hello to Speed. Just say hello."
"X! Why aren't you answering me?"
The truth is, I wanted to answer. I wanted to say hi, but... I just couldn't...
