Sing me something soft, sad, and delicate, or loud and out of key. Sing me anything.

Alice watched as the redhead played a tune on the piano. Her fingers moved gracefully across the keys, creating something beautiful with the music.

Alice felt her heart squeeze. The song was so beautiful, but it was tragically sad. It was filled with a pain that she knew too well.

Lily stopped, resting her hands in her lap.

Alice clapped her hands, starting Lily.

"Alice, I didn't know you were over," Lily said, blushing.

Alice smiled sadly, coming over and sitting next to Lily on the bench. "Frank had to talk to James about something."

"Ah," Lily said, smiling softly.

"You play beautifully."

The redhead blushed. "I'm glad you think so Alice, you were the inspiration for this piece."

"I thought so," Alice said, reaching out and grasping Lily's hand.

The two of them had an affair… if they could even call it that. The two of them would lay together, cuddling in the dark while waiting for their husbands to return from missions. The cuddles turned to kisses, the kisses to touches, and the touches to emotions.

Alice was so in love with Lily, and it just hurt because she knew nothing would ever become of them.

And Lily loved Alice back, but it wasn't enough.

Despite their love for each other, each also loved their husband. So they kept it a secret… but even so, it'd have to end soon.

"I'm pregnant," Lily whispered, a few tears leaking from her eyes.

Alice smiled. "I'm happy for you, love. And that's funny, because I'm pregnant too. Just found out a few weeks ago."

Lily laughed, wiping away her tears. "We're growing apart."

"Not apart, just up. We'll still be best friends, and I'll still love you all the same."

"I love you too, Alice," Lily said, leaning forward to quickly kiss Alice. The two of them had bonded and neither wanted to let that go.

Alice smiled sadly. "Why don't you play some more? But this time, will you sing? You sing so beautifully."

Lily nodded, her fingers finding the appropriate keys. She played, softly singing the words to a tragic love story.

Alice leaned her head onto Lily's shoulder, losing herself in the moment. They had each other, and that's really all that mattered.
