"Um, sure, Mary-Anne, when is the wedding"
"Next Wednesday at 4:30. I'm marrying Logan Bruno, we've been dating again since our senior year in college. But, please call me Anne, I got it legally changed.
If you want, you can come to my wedding earlier, I haven't seen you in so long. Oh, Kristy and Dawn are coming, too. I can't wait for everyone to see eachother"
"That's great! I'll definately be there. Do you have Dawn's number? I wanna call her, too. "
"Sure, it's um... KL5-555-3019. It's really been nice talking to you, Claud"
"Thanks... Anne, it's been nice talking to you, too"
So with that, she hung up the phone and smiled. She always thought Mary-Anne and Logan were the perfect couple, but she never really thought they would get married 17 years later. Slowly, she punched in the numbers to Dawn and let it ring... and ring.. and ring. No answer. So she decided to go to sleep.
An hour later, she woke up to Alley, crying. She was crying because she had had a nightmare. She was screaming and crying as loud as she could, and Claudia was actually kind of worried, because it wasn't really like Alley to have nightmares, and even when she did, which was rarely, she just got out of bed and tiptoed to the livingroom to calm down for a few minutes.
"Mommy, it was that lady we saw at the store today. She took me, and she threw me in this room with spikes on the wall. She put me in there all day, and didnt let me eat or go to the bathroom. When she came back, she beat me with something and my head was bleeding, and then I woke up"
"Oh, Alley it's okay, it was just a nightmare, everything is okay, Mallory isn't gonna get you"
"But"
"Calm down honey, it's okay"
They sat there for almost half an hour, watching tv and when Claudia saw the look on Alley's face turn from extreme fear to happiness and laughter from the tv show.
Claudia looked at the clock and noticed it was only 9:30, so she let Alley stay up and finish watching the show untill 10:00. At ten, she told Alley to get ready for bed.
"Alley, you should get back to bed. Do you want a drink of water first"
"No, thanks mommy. I'll just go back to sleep"
So they both went back to bed, but for some reason, Claudia couldn't sleep at all. She tossed and turned all night, untill almost five o'clock when she just gave up and sat awake for another hour before getting up. At six o'clock, she got up and ate a bowl of oatmeal with strawberries and watched the news quietly, untill Alley came in the room at around 6:45. This unusual for Alley, since she usually didn't get up untill around 10:00 during the summer. She didn't seem to notice it was that early, so Claudia didn't mention anything either. Her husband,
John was already at work, and there was nothing else to do, so Claudia tried Dawn again.
"Come on, answer," she said to herself, and she was so preoccupied with hoping she would answer that she didn't notice when Dawn did answer.
"HELLO, LBTSL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATION, HOW MAY I HELP YOU!!"
