It was dark in the lair, but a muffled cry seemed to echo lightly off the walls. Amber tossed and turned in her bed, trying to muffle the screams threatening to tear themselves from her throat.
All she saw was her four brothers, covered in blood, Shredder standing over their bodies, still holding onto Leo's shell, his hands stained with their blood. She herself couldn't move, their blood spattered on her, mixing with her tears. "Now that THEY'RE gone…" she could hardly see through the veil of tears, but she couldn't move away as he took Leo's katana, stabbing them through her heart.
She woke up with a start, her tears staining her pillow as some dried on her cheeks. She shot up, her breathing ragged and heavy, though it was because of fright, not the usual pain. She wiped the wet tears away, and looked around. Suddenly, the darkness of her room wasn't as comforting as she was used to, with the antique weapons hanging on the walls making her fear grow.
She pulled her knees into her chest, hugging them tight as she tried to master the fear, but the chill of the air didn't help her. She got up, putting on her slippers before walking out of her room, looking around silently before heading to Leo's. She opened the door silently, closing it behind her before looking around the dark room.
She saw him stir in the bed, and stepped closer, whispering, "Leo? Leo, you awake?" "Yeah…but why are you?" he whispered back, propping himself up on his elbow. "It's just…I had a nightmare…" she knew it sounded childish, but she never DID get a chance to be like that, and she needed someone to comfort her.
He motioned for her to come over, and she complied, sitting next to him on the bed. "What was it about?" she looked at the ground, silent, before whispering, "It was Shredder…he…" she didn't want to say it, and the tears came back. She felt him wrap his arms around her, trying to comfort her, and she sat on his lap, crying into his covered chest, and he rubbed soothing circles into her back. "Was it the same one from before?"
She nodded, not trusting her voice, when she looked up at him with teary emerald eyes. He sighed, wiping her tears away. "I'm right here…I'm not going anywhere…just try to calm down…" she nodded slightly, trying to calm her racing heart and stem the flow of tears. "Are you okay?" she nodded, finding it easier to calm down when in his embrace.
She felt safe and warm, something she'd never felt with anyone else. She'd felt before, of course, but not like with him. "You want to go to your room?" she shook her head, saying, "I just want to stay here with you…" he didn't object, in fact, he helped her lay on his bed, and she snuggled his side, smiling softly.
"You comfy?" she nodded, saying, "I'll be fine…as long as you're with me…" she soon fell asleep, her hair falling into her face. Leo sighed, pulling the blankets up to her shoulders, and brushing the hair out of her face. He remembered her words from the last time she'd had this nightmare. 'It's like everyone's trying to hurt me…' he sighed, looking at her peaceful expression, and thought, 'How could anyone hurt an angel? …My angel…'
