She sits there at her desk, looking at the man across from her. This one person has gone beyond what anyone else could do: he had opened her up, let her realize that there is more to life then what she has previously known, showed her how to have fun, and at the same time, made her fall completely in love with him. This one man has stirred up feelings within her she never realized existed, never knew she could experience.
She sits there at her desk, bantering back and forth with him, hoping to impress him, get his attention. Putting competition between the two of them forces him to look at her, through her, give undivided attention to her.
She sits there at her desk giving him hints. Bringing up soul mates. She tries to make him understand. Give him the smallest clue how she feels, but he doesn't get it, he misses it by miles.
She sits there at her desk watching him as he, in complete ignorance, talked with her and joked with her, he not realizing her longing to be loved back. She was so afraid of being rejected by him. Not only because of Gibb's ridiculous rule, but because of him not loving her back. Afraid of that heart wrenching pain of being turned down when you wear your heart on your sleeve for all, especially him to see. Him not feeling that way for her would be devastating, heart breaking, soul taking.
She sits there at her desk watching and knows it can never be. He is her partner, and that's all he'll ever be. So, she sits there and pretends like nothing is wrong and goes along with what is going on. No one realizing the conflict going on inside her heart. No one realizing the pain tearing it apart.
