The bleachers were less than comfortable for prolonged seating, needless to say.
Peridot furrowed her brows as she looked down at the text book sitting on her knees; she tapped her pencil on the paper, listening to the far-off sound of the coach's whistle and various muscled students tackling each other for a ball. She didn't want to be here. Jasper wanted her to be here.
To show off and brag, no doubt, Peridot thought bitterly.
As she scribbled away on a worksheet, letting out her frustrations through the pencil, the coach whistled again to signal that the girls had a break. Peridot took no notice and continued to work.
"I'm cold, I'm uncomfortable, my back is starting to ache," she grumbled, leaving chicken scratches all over the paper. "I could be in the library, or at home, instead of-"
"If you're cold then put a coat on, nerd."
Peridot jumped as Jasper was suddenly beside her, leaning her elbow on the bleachers, grinning wide through sweaty wisps of hair that had come loose from her ponytail during practice. While Peridot seethed and collected herself, picking up a few rogue papers that she had lost control of during her surprise, Jasper wiped her face on her shirt, momentarily displaying her insane abs. Peridot may or may not have been guilty of glancing.
In her defense, it was only a peak.
Peridot cleared her throat.
"I don't have a coat on me, otherwise I would be wearing it, thank you very much." She retorted, prying her eyes away and slapping the paper onto her book.
Jasper put her shirt down again and scratched her chest. She sized Peridot up, who had gone back to her work with flustered, puffed out cheeks, and cracked a smile. Jasper put both her hands on the bleachers and hauled herself up, then strode across them to the other side.
Although she pretended not to pay attention, Peridot turned her head to see what Jasper was up to; she knelt down beside her gym bag, which was set up from the rest on the top bleacher, dug through it, and came back up with her varsity jacket. Peridot wrinkled her nose when Jasper gave it a good test sniff, then quickly snapped her gaze back down as Jasper came thundering towards her once more.
Jasper dropped the coat onto Peridot's shoulders, making her lurch forward under the surprise weight.
"There you go," She said with a chortle. "Now you won't be cold, nerd-lord, and you can focus on me practicing out there."
Peridot grabbed the collar of the jacket and pulled it around her shoulders properly, her scrunched up face going hot. "Thanks…"
Jasper continued to give her a smirk, before she put both hands on Peridot's shoulders and leaned down, where she booped their noses together in an eskimo kiss. This small gesture was followed by a proper kiss to Peridot's cheek.
"We'll be done practice in like, fifteen minutes," Jasper purred against Peridot's headscarf. "Then we'll go do some boring shit like study or something at your place."
Flustered and borderline embarrassed, Peridot gave a shaky smile to her papers and nodded.
The whistle screeched from the field, so Jasper squeezed Peridot's shoulders and then took off down the bleachers, leaping over the last couple and jogging onto the field. Peridot watched her put her arms around a couple girls' necks and dragged them into a headlock playfully as they went for a huddle.
Huffing, Peridot went back to doing her work with a shaking hand and a wide, flustered grin.
