Disclaimer- I don't own Ruroni Kenshin.

Sanosuke walked aimlessly through town for a while, thinking about random things that came to mind, when he came across a new bar that had opened up. Looking up at the sign, Sanosuke decided that it couldn't hurt to go in there to check to the place out, and maybe have a few drinks. Walking in, he noticed that the bar wasn't very populated but that much was to be expected since it was pretty late at night and most people were at home. There was one person there, however, that did catch the former fighter-for-hire's attention. Sitting in the back corner of the bar was Saitoh Hijime.
Sanosuke turned around, fully intent on leaving, when Saitoh called out to him, "Hey, Rooster-head, I had a feeling you'd end up here."
Sanosuke turned back around and walked over to him, "Oh really?"
"Yeah," Saitoh smirked, "out of all your friends you're the only one to be wondering around this late like a fool. Wanna drink? It's on me."
Sanosuke sat down across from the police officer and looked at him suspiciously, "Why would you want to buy me a drink?"
Saitoh sighed, "There's just been some things that I've wanted to talk to you about."
"Like what?"
"Like the fact that you're weak," Saitoh stated, sipping his tea.
Sanosuke glared at him, "I'm not weak!"
"If you weren't weak, you'd be a better asset to the Batosai, and myself, the next time some psycho comes along."
Sanosuke gulped down the drink Saitoh had bought for him, and got another as the two argued. As the hours wore on, Sanosuke had gotten himself drunk, while Saitoh sipped on another cup of tea. "If I'm so weak," Sanosuke asked, slurring his words here and there, "why do you always fight against me?"
"Because," Saitoh said, looking at the drunk man in front of him, "if I don't keep showing you how weak you are, you're not going to work to get better and you'll get arrogant. And arrogance is something that'll get you killed one of these days."
Sanosuke stared at Saitoh, his vision kinda blurry, for a moment as things seemed to click into place, "You've been doing it for my own good?"
Saitoh nodded as he stood up, "You should go home and get some sleep. God only knows what'll happen to you if you're stumbling around like a drunkard all night." After paying for the drinks Saitoh walked out of the bar, leaving Sanosuke to think about what he had heard that night.

(I know it's short, and kinda sucky... but still... insperation hit me, and I had to write it.)
