Running. It seemed to be all she could do these days. She hated running with a fiery passion. It unnerved her, gave her to much time to think. So she never ran without reason, and this, she would count as a good reason. Chasing is one thing they were good at, catching, not so much. Shooting they were horrible at, so they chased and chased, and chased. Oh how she wish they would stop, how she wished she could stop. She wanted to be home in her nice and comfy bed, where the world would leave her in peace, and there were no men with guns and knifes at her back. Sometimes she wished her life was boring and that she was normal, but alas fate was cruel and she was not. Oh why did her grandfather ever give her that puzzle to solve. He knew that she could not back down from a challenge, and that no matter how long it took that she would solve that puzzle, whether she wanted to or not. And finally after eight long years she did and that is where her story begins. Her name was Yugi Moto and this is her story.

Yugi bolted up in her bed and barely choked down a scream. Her dream, no, that dream had plagued her for the better part of eight years. She wondered what it was about that dream that worried her, for she could never remember the whole thing the next morning. What she did remember was that she was running, however from who or what remained unknown. The other item remembered from the dream was her puzzle, she knew it was finished but not the form it took. It was infuriating to her that she had yet to come close finishing it. She had made plenty of progress but not enough to know what form it took. Yugi looked down as she felt a nudge against her elbow to see her faithful Great Dane companion, Mocha, looking up at her in what Yugi could only assume was a worried way. She could not help but smile at Mocha's action.
"Don't worry Mocha, I'm alright." She said.
Mocha seeming satisfied with this response laid her head on her master's lap. Mocha had been a gift to Yugi three years ago from her grandpa. Mocha had rarely left Yugi's side since, something that Yugi was eternally grateful for. Yugi was startled from her thoughts by a resounding knock on her bedroom door.
"Yugi, are you awake in there?" Came the jovial voice of her grandpa.
"Yes, grandpa, just give me a moment." She replied as she crawled out from under her covers and Mocha.
"Hurry my dear, it is almost time for you to go to school. You wouldn't want to be late for your last day now would you?"
"No grandpa, I'll be down soon."
"Alright my girl. Breakfast is on the table." He said as he walked away.
Yugi stood in front of her floor length mirror examining her appearance. Seeing as she just got out of bed her hair was anything but tame, however it was nothing that a little water couldn't handle. She quickly went to the bathroom to dampen her hair. Once accomplished she began to run a comb through her tri-colored locks. Starting with her blonde bangs, then moving to the black mane, and finally to the violet tips. Just as swiftly as she entered the bathroom she dressed in her school uniform and exited. She checked her reflection again and noted with satisfaction that her hair had taken on their natural soft curls that fell halfway down her back. Her pink cardigan and white blouse as well as her mid-thigh blue skirt were very form fitting and accented her assets just enough for her liking. Though with her big amethyst eyes, if it weren't for her nicely proportioned body, the five foot girl would probably look like a grade schooler versus the sixteen year old girl that she was.
"Come Mocha." She called as she exited the bedroom.
Mocha swiftly obeyed and followed Yugi down the stairs were her grandpa was waiting for her.
"Hey Yug." Came the voice of one of Yugi's best friend. Honestly, it didn't surprise her at all that Joey was already there, devouring any food that was set in front of her, or on the table in general.
"Hello Joey." Yugi replied to the blonde haired girl. "When did you get here." She asked as she moved to feed Mocha.
" I actually stayed the night." Came the muffled reply. That wasn't surprising either. Everyone knew that Joey hated her drunken father with a passion and would often crash on Yugi's couch to avoid him. She also had a bad habit of talking with her mouth full.
"Joyful, you should probably inform your father of when you are going to stay the night with us." Came grandpa's reply from the living room. Yugi giggled.
"I'm more concerned about her telling us when she is going to stay."
"Yeah, we'll that man is probably so drunk that he doesn't even realize I'm gone most the time." Joey sighed "Besides, you guys are the only ones I can count on to leave your doors unlocked."
Yugi smiled serenely at Joey. "And it always will be. Though with Dartz's organization hanging around it would probably be easier to just to give you a key." Dartz was a man who was greatly feared in the country of Japan. His organization controlled a majority of Japan and his word was law. Many had tried to end his reign of terror and just as many as failed. E was the reason that Yugi for all purposes was an orphan. He had killed her parents because they had the gall to stand up to him. They were the head of a resistance group that Yugi and her friends were now apart of. As a matter of fact Yugi was now one of the leaders of said resistance. Yugi was only twelve years old when her parents were made an example of (as Dartz called it) and publicly executed by hanging. From that day Yugi had trained and waited for her chance to get revenge on Dartz for murdering her parents. However, for now she had to settle for going to school and helping run the resistance.
"Come on," said Joey pulling Yugi from her thoughts, "Ryou and Malik are probably waiting for us." Yugi grabbed her bag and shoes and headed for the door.
"Yeah," she replied "let's go."
