It was their own fault. Really, after all the years they'd known her, you'd think Finn and Quinn would have learned not to fuck with Santana Lopez.
Maybe it would have been the classy, mature thing to simply smile and stand aside when Finn and Quinn got back together shortly before prom (dumping her and Sam by the wayside), once again setting themselves up as the golden couple, the shoo-in for prom king and queen, but Santana was having none of that shit. She had been epically dissed and no one - NO ONE - dissed her like that.
As Finn and Quinn pranced around the school, all smiles and butter-wouldn't-melt-in-their-mouths-sweetness, Santana decided it was important to knock them down a peg or two. Or ten. Public humiliation was a must.
It was either that or cut their break lines and a tiny voice in her head told her the potential for actually killing someone else was far too high in that scenario.
So, she decided to systematically torment them in a devious and clever way that would be hard to link back to her. Recruiting Brittany to the cause had been easy and in the course of a few days, the two of them had organized a campaign and plastered the walls of the school wit posters of another couple running for prom king and queen.
Puck and Rachel had been shocked as hell to find out some one had entered them into the running on their behalf and had nearly ruined everything by pulling out of the race. Then Finn opened his big mouth and demanded they withdraw. Even Quinn knew enough to keep quiet and had winced as Finn went on to whine about them knowing the crowns were supposed to be his and Quinn's and it was just embarrassing.
Needless to say, Puck and Rachel had decided to stay in the race for the sole purpose of pissing him off. Neither of them thought there was any chance they might win…but they hadn't counted on Santana rigging the race.
She had learned well from Coach Sylvester.
When it was announced that the winners of McKinley High School's Prom King and Queen were Noah Puckerman and Rachel Berry, a good cheer went up (possibly because a lot of people were terrified of Puck) and that only served to validate their win. Stunned, the two of them made their way up to the stage to accept their crowns then share the first dance.
Most everyone watched them, 'cause they actually did move well together, but Santana watched Finn and Quinn have a meltdown over by the walls. Quinn's face was pale and her mouth drawn into a tight line as her fists balled at her sides. Finn was demanding a recount, but no one was listening, then protested that there was no way Rachel and Puck were better liked than him and Quinn. Then Quinn snapped at him, blaming him for them even still being in the running.
The pair of them stalked out of the prom, bitching at each other the whole way.
Santana smiled to herself. It was a job well done and there was still plenty of the dance left to enjoy.
She asked Sam to dance.
Comments, pretty please?
