AN: My first ever almost fanfic

Two Princesses

"Please, mommy, please tell me the story of the two princesses," the doe-eyed three-year-old pouted pitifully.

When it came to her daughter, 'no' was rarely a part of Mitchie Torres' vocabulary, this night being no exception. With a sigh and a pat on her lap inviting the girl to hop up, Demi began the story, "Once upon a time, there were two princesses in a land not too far from here..."

A young girl with deep-brown curls tangled in her face is sat upon a swing in an otherwise empty playground, head down, watching her black and white shoes drag trails in the dirt below her. She squeezes her eyes tight and wishes as hard as she can for a friend to play with.

When she opens her eyes, like magic, a girl almost her age with chocolate brown pigtails is squinting back at her through a pair of wire-rimmed glasses. As she stares in awe of her new-found wishing powers, the girl before her darts her eyes back and forth nervously and asks, "Uh, are you okay?"

The girl is snapped out of her temporary reverie, and back to sulking, "My stupid neighbor Henry stole my hologram baseball card, and he said that girls aren't allowed to play in his castle because only boys with swords can be knights."

The younger girl squints and blinks a few more times, "Well, my new daddy says that I'm a princess. Maybe you could be a princess with me in my castle."

The scrape-kneed, Converse-clad girl eyes the other girl's pretty dress and shining white shoes, "You really think I could be a princess?"

"Well, sure. You could be my princess," replied the girl, baring her gap-toothed smile hard and wide.

That night, the girls build a castle of their own with sheets and blankets and cushions and pillows, so high and strong no knight would ever be able to come knock it down.

"And did they live happily ever after?" The sleepy-eyed little girl in Mitchie's lap questioned.

"We sure did, didn't we," replied Alex, leaning against the frame of the door, after having snuck up to listen in on her favorite story. She swiftly scooped the girl up and tucked her into bed like she had a hundred times before, kissed her on the head, and watched as her daughter quickly slipped into a peaceful sleep. She smiled and closed her own eyes as she felt a pair of arms slip around her waist from behind

"And we will forever and ever."

THE END!!!
