The continuous crunching of leaves, the short gasps inevitably escaping from my lips, and the occasional dangerously hungry growl emanating behind the haunted trees. It was all I could hear. Each growl sending threats to my ears, urging me to run faster.
Cold sweat covered me. Twigs and small branches scraped my exposed skin. My braided hair was as if struggling to get out of its tie. My eyes desperately looking for a safe haven. My mouth left half open as if it was frozen in time. Unable to speak. My feet had a mind of its own as it drags me away from the one that is chasing me.
The growl seemed to grow louder as it made my eyes look back. Only to be greeted by cold, sharp yellow eyes staring back, as if it looked away I would disappear. It prompted me to run faster than before. The air leaving my lungs. None of it mattered.
I took a turn, I could not comprehend if it was left or right, and made it in a small clearing and the sunny sky decided to show itself. Unfortunately, I was at the end of a cliff. Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. My eyes still desperate as I turn my head left and right in hopes of finding somewhere to escape.
But I was too late. It was already in front of me.
The wolf has already trapped me.
Its sharp fangs showing, as if telling me that it was ready to devour me whole. Its stance was stiff and ready to pounce. It took slow steps towards me, making me step back. This went on until I reached the end of the cliff.
That was when I saw a broken branch, good enough to ward it away. I looked back and forth from the branch to the one in front of me. It seemed to sense what I am about to do as it abruptly lunged at me. I flinched and jumped for the branch, stretching out my arms as I reach for it.
But I was a second too late. One of it's claws raked my shoulder and pushing me away from the branch. And toward the edge of the cliff.
I fell.
I could not scream.
All I could do was stared wide-eyed at the wolf. Who somehow managed not to fall.
All that was emitted from my mouth was sudden intake of breath as my thoughts gathered the courage to admit that I was going to die.
A loud pulse coursed through my whole body. All of a sudden I was cloaked with the chilling warmth of darkness.
