heya
is anyone there…?
well, i'll just leave a message…
All in all, this wasn't the worst outcome… True, it's possible that the monsters may all die before they reach the surface.
...and the king is dead.
...and the Underground is almost entirely devoid of hope.
But there's at least one happy snowman out there, so that's gotta count for at least something.
so...
it's been a while…
the queen returned, and is now ruling over the underground.
Toriel's reintroduction to the Underground wasn't the most graceful, but thankfully nobody seemed to object to her ruling. And considering how the last few weeks had played out, the last thing the kingdom needed was a rebellion.
she's enstated a new policy…
all the humans who fall down here will be treated not as enemies…
but as friends.
The idea of it still made him uneasy. True, the last human was kind and loving, but they earned their friendship. The next human though? They might not be. Of course, he reasoned, he wasn't much for politics, it's just not his place.
it's probably for the best, anyway.
...even though people are heartbroken over the king…
...and things are looking grim for our freedom…
the queen's trying her best not to let us give up hope.
so, uh, hey…
if we're not giving up hope down here…
don't give up wherever you are, ok?
What else was there to even say? He knew that they were never going to get back to him. Why was he still trying? Weeks and weeks of silence, it was exhausting.
well, i'm gonna be pretty busy for a while, but…
if you ever do need anything, anything at all...
the new captain of the now defunct royal guard will be there to pick up.
yup, my bro made it to captain. undyne talked the queen into keeping one member to water her flowers.
be seeing you, ok buddy?

Sans slided his phone back into his pocket, and stared into the barrier. He took a deep breath, and took the shortcut back into his bedroom.
[AN: Damn, three years already. I got into Undertale late, and it feels like a lifetime (or maybe many lifetimes) since I started. I hope you all enjoyed the prologue to this fic, from here on it's all new stuff, I swear. Trust me, I know how redundant it feels to read a call (almost) completely unedited, but it was the best way I could think to introduce what timeline we're on. Good night, y'all!]
