Disclaimer: I wished that I owned Pokémon, but sadly I don't.

He wasn't ready for this. He was just a kid. Just a kid with a simple dream. It all seemed so foolish, so unreasonable to him. And yet, the faces if the elders looked down at him with such seriousness that he couldn't help but believe it to be true. He trembled with fear as the heavy weight of his responsibilities weighed him down. His eyes stinged with tears, some days he couldn't even tie his shoe laces right and he was supposed to protect the world? The lives of millions of humans and Pokémon, rested in his hand? It had to be a joke. He couldn't be the one.

"You are the chosen one."

"This is your responsibility."

"Your fate was decided long before you were born."

"You do not have a choice."

"You cannot run away."

"You are the only one who can do this."

Their voices, their faces, their expectations, their hopes was something he could not get out of his head. The first time he had been summoned by the elders, he had not in his wildest dreams imagined that he would be bestowed upon with this title, this fate that he didn't want but could not reject. Now as he sat on the cool green grass of the plains around Pallet surrounded by a cool, calm breeze, he felt anything but calm. He could not stop the shaking, the trembling, the feeling that he could be the reason millions of living beings could end up dead. One small mistake on his side and the world could end. And he could just not bring himself to believe in himself. He knew he would mess up, he was not perfect. He was scared.

"Pikachu?"

The voice of his best friend interrupted his train of thoughts. He looked down at the yellow Pokémon standing in front of him, a concerned look on his face.

"Pikachu…I…" Ash started to speak but could not find the words, his voice shaking with fear.

"Pika pi."

The yellow rat just simply smiled at his trainer. He motioned towards the Pokémon standing behind him. And Ash saw that all his Pokémon were there. Standing and smiling in unison,. As if to say, we can do this. And when the tears fell from his eyes, they were not tears of despair but tears of happiness. Of course, he didn't have to do it all alone. He always had his friends right beside him, fighting alongside him, supporting him. He smiled.

"Thank you"
