After getting himself hurt badly, all Yveltal could do was hide. The open wounds were too broad; he couldn't stop the bleeding, the drain of blood and the heavy breathing slowly pushing his self-consciousness into oblivion.
Blood dripped from his Crimson wings, pain clung to his countenance. His chest bared with scars of plenty, grey fur stained with darkened blood chunks, he winced and the excruciating pain and fell hard on the damp mud, chest heaving up and down in a soothingly melodious rhythm, serene countenance belying his constant heavy panting. His claws clenching into fists once in a while, barely conscious due to the extreme mind shredding pain and blood loss.
There he thought he saw a shadow shifting beyond the silent woods. Painstakingly, he dragged himself behind a decaying tree trunk, trails of fresh blood smudged under his slim, avian body.
The faint footsteps grew louder as his heart began to race; Thump-thump, thump-thump. He could feel her presence; he could feel the heat radiating from her. Tension started building up in his throat like molten plastic, suffocating him slowly and painfully. The footsteps ceased however, followed by a light snort.
"W-Why...?" Her voice light and smooth, delicately tinted with a rather careful and understanding tone, but he still caught a slight tremble at the end.
Before he could retort, tears started streaming down her heavenly azure eyes, and such action from Xerneas frightened him a bit. She always acted tough and invulnerable in front of him, always protecting him, from all dangers even if it might cost her life. But now, upon seeing him so critically injured only left her speechless and visibly hurt.
Xerneas shot him a look of sympathy, her antlers glowed slightly, and the colors glistered under the blazing Sun. More blood poured out of Yveltal, enervating him and leaving him sprawled out behind a dead log, incapacitated.
He turned to face her, the legendary deer he had grown to cherish, to appreciate, to treasure. Until now, he never noticed how elegant and pretty she actually looked. He stared straight into her eyes, those wide heavenly azure eyes, those everlasting abundance of light, always blithe and forgiving.
"Your eyes..." Yveltal stammered, his voice weak and deflated. Limbs laid lifelessly on the moist ground, slightly buried in dusts and wet mud. His tone, despite his barely conscious mind and the drilling pain, it held infinite power and strength, "Your eyes...they are so bright..."
Tears dragged down her slender face instantly; the azure deer dropped on her knees, desperation shadowed her, tears shed down from her navy orbs. She managed to trudge closer and nuzzled him under his chin, burying her snout in his Crimson chest for one last time. She sat slightly back on her haunches, eyes bloodshot from all the crying, her antlers tinted with colorful seasons.
His heartbeat slowed, eyes shut, the breathing settled, and a genuine smile crossed his countenance, a smile way more powerful than mere words.
Her eyes wet, head lowered, soft breathing. Her voice solemn and quiet, trembled heavily from the crying. "I will never forget you,", she mumbled, her voice clouded with unbearable sorrow, "Never..."
The night was calm, dark curtains of the sky consumed the glistering stars and the constellations far beyond their reach, summer breeze swept by, coating the earth with a feeling of lost.
Xerneas sat there, grasping the last remaining moments with her counterpart with both of her hooves. She would never let go.
