Waiting Room
The waiting room of Waikiki General Hospital felt massive as I sat there listening to the clock tick by. Realizing Rachel would be here soon with Grace made my stomach bunch up in knots.
Closing my eyes, I can't help but recall what had happened just an hour before. Danny and I had to pick up a suspect. We arrived at the suspect's house and saw his truck. Danny wanted to wait for back up but I insisted that we would be fine.
We should've waited.
We walked through the door to find the suspect had strapped a bomb to himself. I quickly tried to neutralize the situation but he wouldn't listen. He went to press that button and I just remember shouting, "Run!"
Once everything had settled, I looked up to see Danny lying on the ground. I called 911 as I ran over to him. His heartbeat was slow but he wouldn't wake up. I think I just kept whispering, "Wake up Danny, come one wake up!"
I'm brought back to reality when Grace comes running up o me crying with Rachel right behind her. "Steve, what happened is he okay?" Rachel asked worriedly as Grace clung to me sobbing.
As calmly as I could I said, "A bomb went off, Danny only has a couple of minor scratches but he hasn't woken up yet. The doctors are still running tests but he is currently stable." I say my voice only breaking slightly. Looking up I see the doctor approaching. Picking up Grace and setting her on my hip, I stand and say, "Doc, is they anything new?"
"As of right now, not much. His tests appear okay but the sooner he wakes up, the better. Hopefully, he will wake up in the next few hours." He said, " I will be back with an update in a bit, you can go and see him if you would like. If he hears your voices, he might wake sooner. Let me know if you need anything."
"Thank you." I say as he walks away, "You want to see Daddy?" I ask Grace as she nods her head.
