ARC 1: The Mafia Boss's Wife
Chapter 1: A New Journey
The day turned out pretty well, Tsuna decides, his head resting on his hands as he stares out the window with a somewhat sentimental look in his eyes. The sun shines down upon the world, the air temperature slightly cooler than it was earlier. The breeze feels pretty nice too, he decides with a sigh. Somehow, despite how nice the evening is today, Tsuna feels like the opposite. He feels strangely conflicted; a dark and windy day would suit him better. He wonders if he has lost his inspiration to enjoy such sunny days.
It's as if he hasn't changed at all despite everything he's been through. Things have been rough for him since the very day Reborn suddenly appeared in his life with no warning whatsoever. Before that, Tsuna had been a nobody at school. In fact, he had been 'No good Tsuna' at school, and he still was, even now. It seemed as if he would never outgrow such a degrading nickname. He hated it.
At school he would always get terrible grades in everything, no matter what he did or no matter how hard he studied. To add on to that, he was also horrible at gym and had no muscle whatsoever. He was skinny and got tired out easily, so that was quite obvious. Even his attitude was wimpy, because he would simply admit that he was horrible at everything, and he has next to no self-esteem whatsoever. No one complemented him and put him down instead with insults, so of course that would be the case. The fact that he would admit every one of these facts without hesitating made things even worse.
Sometimes, Tsuna would wonder whether or not Reborn coming into his life was a good thing. It was because of Reborn that Tsuna has met and become friends with so many people. He's made friends, something he's never really had before. He's gotten closer to the girl of his dreams, so much closer than he ever thought he could be. In a way, his life is clearing up. Hell, he even has a future now! A good one!
At the same time, he wonders if it's a bad thing. It's because of Reborn that he's been put into so many life threatening situations. He's fought so many people and he's been hurt by so many others. All of it was to protect the friends who were dragged into the same situation he had been forced into. Sometimes he regrets dragging them into the mafia, yet at the same time he's happy they're with him. Every fight he's fought and won had been to protect his friends. The friends he would have never been with had it not been for Reborn.
In the beginning, he didn't want to become a mafia boss. Hell, to this very day he still isn't sure of it. The world of the mafia is a dark and dangerous place that he isn't sure he's ready for yet. However, Reborn says he can change Tsuna. Reborn says he can make Tsuna into a basic copy of the brave and strong Vongola Primo. If that happens, he won't be Dame Tsuna anymore. From the very point he takes up the position of a Mafia boss for the Vongola, he'll be the strong and powerful Decimo, or as he is now planned to be named, the Neo Vongola Primo. He'll be respected nonetheless.
Tsuna sighs, looking just a bit older than he actually is as the evening sun reflects on him.
A loud yell pulls himself out of his thoughts, "Baseball freak! Hurry up with the sushi, at this rate Juudaime will starve, damn it!" He recognizes it easily. It's Gokudera Hayato, his supposed right hand man. This teenager has a bad habit of yelling at Yamamoto, so it doesn't really surprise Tsuna when it happens. Rolling his eyes slightly, he moves away from the window and leaves his room, heading downstairs and expertly avoiding the creaks on the stairs.
There was a party going on especially for him, who would be taking up the position of Vongola Decimo as of today. Or at least he is meant to be, but Tsuna still denies such a notion. Tsuna really hadn't wanted a party for such a thing, but Reborn had persisted and absolutely ignored his distaste. He enters just on time to hear Yamamoto laugh just as he always does, smiling while saying the sushi would be done soon. Tsuna watches him, obviously impressed at the skill Yamamoto uses while preparing sushi.
A girl with short brown hair tied into a ponytail looks right past Tsuna as he enters the room, which surprises Tsuna, seeing as Haru usually only looked at him. It wasn't that he was jealous, he was just surprised.
"I'll help," she announces, bouncing up from her chair and pushing past him with ease to reach Yamamoto. She grabs an apron and lends a hand.
"Tsuna-kun!" A soft voice calls out, and he feels a blush tickle his face when he recognizes the owner to be Kyoko. She sends him a warm smile and points to an empty seat next to her that she had obviously been saving for him. He heads towards the girl, who warms his heart just by being in her presence. Her auburn hair bounces gently on her head as she turns towards him; the edges of her hair look golden while the light shines on it. Her eyes shone with a lustrous glimmer within the light and reflected a clear innocence within her. "Congratulations," she smiles again.
Before Tsuna could manage some form of a response, their attention is turned towards a short argument between both Gokudera and his older sister, who is angry that she has to wear goggles just to prevent Gokudera from getting sick on such an occasion. Tsuna hears something about not dressing properly for Reborn from Bianchi, but Tsuna mutes everything else out and instead chooses to excuse himself from the table and help Yamamoto carry over the finished sushi after Yamamoto announced the meal was prepared.
He sits back down, and feels slightly overwhelmed as Haru suddenly sits down next to him. "Haru? W-What are you doing?" He asks, his nervous stutter kicking in as he speaks to her.
"Sitting down next to my Tsuna-kun!" She replies, sending him the cutest puppy dog lips accompanied by the sweetest smile that makes Tsuna wonder just how long it was since he began seeing Haru as a woman. Feeling her get closer to him makes him inch away and bump into Kyoko, who seems to have a glare in her eyes and downturned lips. However, when he meets her gaze again the look is gone and she's smiling at him again angelically. Tsuna feels himself getting redder and redder, and Haru fumes, angry about his reaction towards another woman.
"Geez, Tsuna, you shouldn't be embarrassed with other women, I'm the one who's going to be your wife after all," she says, her chin rising as she pulls Tsuna back towards her. Kyoko seems almost troubled by Haru's words and gently pulls Tsuna back to her, defending her actions by saying she wanted to talk to Tsuna.
For an hour, Tsuna finds himself being pulled back and forth between two girls. The odd thing is that he's not sure if he hates it or not. However, things plunge downwards quickly as the conversation moves onto the first time Tsuna saw Haru and Kyoko in their underwear after they tried eating I-Pin's buns. At the time, it had been easy to lie to them when telling them what happened. They believed that they passed out from eating I-Pin's buns easily, but because Reborn brought the subject up, Haru ran upstairs and Kyoko demanded to know what color underwear she had been wearing that day if Tsuna truly did see that.
Trying to play it off as nothing, Tsuna simply says he doesn't remember. She believes him for only a second until Reborn speaks up and says something about how he declared how much he liked the pink striped underwear. Thus, Tsuna's trust in Reborn diminishes ever so slightly. A blush overcomes Kyoko's face, and she soon runs upstairs to join Haru before Tsuna even has the chance to think of an apology.
He pauses to think because they went upstairs. The only thing that was upstairs were his and his mother's bedroom, so just what were they doing? He looks upstairs, as if ready to go see what they were seeing, but he stops himself when he feels a heavy aura that makes a chill run down his spine. His instincts warned of him of the impending doom of that choice and though he enjoyed his life without being brought down by women any further. He decides against going upstairs just as Ryohei, the older brother of Kyoko, stands up and challenges him to a fight to get revenge for his sister's purity that was taken by Tsuna's eyes. If that makes any sense.
Apologizing repeatedly, things only get worse as Gokudera slams his fists onto the table and stands up. There is dynamite laced in his fingers, and a scowl on his face as he yells profanity towards the white haired teenager. He declares that he'll fight for Tsuna as his right hand man. Tsuna frantically waves his hands and shakes his head no.
"This is a kitchen!" He declares; eyes wide and a look on his face that asks 'seriously?'"
All attempts to stop the fight fails as Gokudera brings up the battle that occurred just recently. "May I remind you, Lawn-head, that it was you who got taken out so easily in the battle we just took place in?"
"Gah," Ryohei makes a clicking noise with his tongue, "That was an accident!"
"You were more useless than Lambo was!"
It's Lambo's turn to slam his little fists on the table as he yells at Gokudera; and it's understandable, because Lambo's just a kid. Besides, he was pretty strong in that situation.
"Lambo was not useless! Lambo was busy!" Lambo shouted to Gokudera who remarked he was sleeping through most of the event.
"L-Lambo, Gokudera-kun, Onii-san…please stop," Tsuna tries again, but whenever he tries to make things better, the opposite always happens. It happens again when a sudden crash is heard and two men fall from the ceiling, landing on the table with weapons pointed towards each other. Tsuna's jaw drops, and at this moment he can't help but wonder how his mother will react when she comes home to all of this; then again it's as if she's okay with everything, no matter what happens. Even this.
"Hibari?" Tsuna squeaks, "Mukuro?!"
"Ah, hello Tsunayoshi; I must apologize for dropping in like this, but a little pest attacked me and it ended up like this."
"Hmph, Herbivores," Hibari mutters, tonfas raised in a defensive position. Kyoko runs back downstairs to see what is going on, and she immediately runs over to Tsuna and grabs his arm, previous anger forgotten. She hides herself in his shirt, "I… I heard a loud noise, it scared me. What's going on?"
Tsuna sighs. Things couldn't get any worse.
"Sorry about the roof as well," Mukuro said with his signature laugh.
Tsuna's eyes move upwards, and his eyes widen at the huge gaping hole in the roof he finally noticed.
"Gah! My roof!" Tsuna shrieked.
"Gahh!" Gokudera joined in with Tsuna's shock. "You're running Juudaime's party!"
Gokudera was prepared to join in the skirmish, bombs ready to go within his hands. Tsuna's eyes zoom in on the bombs that are a bigger threat to his home than anything else here.
"Umm," Tsuna spoke softly," Y-You do not have to do that, Gokudera-kun!"
"Just try to defeat me then," Hibari responds to Gokudera's threat with confidence.
"Haha! Lambo will join the fight too!" Lambo shouts as he tried to jump on the table but falls to the ground instead. Tsuna looks at him for a moment, concerned about his safety, but Lambo gets up and tries his best to stay calm, and before anyone knows it, he pulls out his ten year bazooka. He jumps right on in, and then out comes a fifteen year old Lambo standing before them. Confident, cool, and collected as ever with his clean smile across his face.
"Romeo!" Bianchi calls out in rage. She joins the fiasco that ensues as she creates poison cooking within her hands.
"He's screwed," just about everyone thinks at the same time.
"DIE A THOUSAND TIMES, THEN DIE AGAIN!" She screams at Lambo who nearly jumps out of his own skin from fear.
"I…I…I can't die that many times!" Lambo screamed in terror.
"Bianchi! Don't! That's not Romeo, it's Lambo—" Tsuna tries to calm her, but fails of course.
"Don't lie for him Tsuna! His life was mine the moment he dumped me! I never forgot…every day I burn a picture of him…just to remind myself of the pain I felt that day…the scars are burnt into my very heart and soul as a woman! He will suffer!" Bianchi said, psychotic twitch in her eyes. Tsuna stopped fearing for the well being of his home in exchange for his own safety around this woman.
"You really need to let that go!" Tsuna exclaimed in shock.
"This looks interesting! Haha! I want to play the game too!" Yamamoto says cheerfully as he draws his sword.
"HOW DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A GAME!?" Tsuna shouts.
"Let's fight to the EXTREMEEE!" Ryohei yells. He even rips off his shirt and prepares to start boxing. Then he looks over and saw Kyoko's stare. He quickly swallows his fury as he goes to do push-ups instead while counting out loud.
"WORK OUT TO THE EXTREME!"
"Shut the hell up! Dammit!" Gokudera snaps at Ryohei.
"Die, annoyance," Hibari said as he charged Mukuro.
"How about you die, you sakura loving herbivore? Kufufufu," Mukuro laughs.
"Haha! What are the rules to this game?" Yamamoto asks with his blade ready to cut everything down.
"How is this still a game to you?" Tsuna shrieks.
"Someone help me!" Lambo screamed, still running from Bianchi.
"My life is one big comedy to you, isn't it?" Tsuna sighs, clasping his hands together as if praying to a nonexistent god. "I bet you're sitting on your couch, eating popcorn and watching me right now. If you are, please, just please. Give me a sign everything will be okay eventually!"
Then. as if answered by the Gods…!
The table everyone was standing on broke in two. Then the roof caved in completely as it fell on the table just before everyone leaped out of the way. Tsuna just stared at the hunk of materials gathered in the center of the floor in horror. Everyone else stared at it for a moment before going back to what they were originally doing. Tsuna took back what he said earlier. His future is looking like a stretch.
Tsuna finally finds the time to relax as he smiles once everyone is calmed down, the mess is cleaned up, and the food is placed in front of them. Despite knowing he's going to have to be the one who cleans up the mess later, Tsuna smiles. He's happy because he's with his friends, and it's… it's fun. Being here in the moment with all of his friends was something he once dreamed of long ago, but now that dream of his has finally be realized. He isn't alone anymore. He has friends…no, he has a family.
In the constant chatter everyone was making, none of them realizes as Tsuna moves from his spot at the table and walks outside in silence. He closes the door behind him and looks up into the night sky. A small smile finds its way back onto his face as he takes in a breath of the fresh night air, relaxing him. He holds a hand up towards the sky and looks at his Vongola ring. It is a sign that he is the boss of the Vongola, a huge change to what his life had been before.
He knows for a fact that the only reason he put it on was to protect the friends and family he loved; not to become boss, and not to become a figure of power. Now, here he is, celebrating himself becoming boss to a mafia group, while his friends celebrated inside. Tsuna knows he has to get stronger. It's only going to get harder from this point on, and he knows that. If he's not strong enough, then anyone of his friends could die from the dangerous world he pulled them into. He had to face this burden, no matter what. If one of them died, it would be on his shoulders. And Tsuna said it himself; he would die before he let any of his friends die.
Tsuna is then literally kicked out of his thoughts as a black shoe makes rough contact with his head, sending him to the ground with a loud and painful thud.
"Ciaossu!" Tsuna hears from the fedora wearing baby.
"Reborn!" Tsuna complains, rubbing the newly forming bruise on his head while using his other hand to prop himself up from the ground.
"What are you doing out here when there's a party going on in there, for you? A little rude to your guests, don't you think, Dame Tsuna?" Reborn asks. "You had such a good thing going on in there too."
"Good thing?" Tsuna responded, confused by Reborn's words.
"Mhm, with Kyoko and Haru; perhaps you didn't notice." Reborn smirks, throwing his hands behind his back as he stepped closer to Tsuna. "But even you couldn't be that oblivious."
"What do you mean, Reborn?" Tsuna asked, obliviously.
Reborn let out an exhausted sigh. "You truly are dense when it comes to women's feelings, aren't you. It's no wonder you don't have a girlfriend yet," the tiny man says jokingly, jumping onto Tsuna's shoulder. "Or maybe it's because you don't have my good looks."
Tsuna doesn't even bother to reply to that statement.
"You do understand that a Vongola boss will need a wife, right?" Reborn asks, donning a halo upon his head. "So starting tomorrow, you will go through the first trial of many trials to come. The Vongola Wife Program!"
Tsuna's eyes widen, and his mouth opens in a silent scream, completely unable to reply.
"I promise that in ten days, you will have a girlfriend that will one day become your wife. I hope you're ready to marry Haru or Kyoko with your dying will, for that is the next step in your journey, Tsuna!"
"No way! I…I can't do something so quickly! Ten days? That's crazy, Reborn! Is this a joke? " Tsuna asks, hopefully.
"Nope." Reborn laughs. "I will get you through this, or you'll die trying!"
"Don't you mean or 'I' will die trying?" Tsuna asks.
"Of course not! I'm not the one getting married," Reborn remarks in a matter-of-fact tone.
Leaving him to his thoughts, Reborn turns and heads back into the house to the party. Tsuna, now alone, let out a depressed sigh.
For the second time that evening, Tsuna feels conflicted. He has to pick between Haru and Kyoko, and he knows it will be hard. Sure, he's liked Kyoko ever since he first met her, but it was undeniable that he felt something for Haru too. They were both beautiful young women who seem to be interested in him, but he wasn't exactly sure anyway. So how is he supposed to choose? He's not ready to choose; it's too hard of a choice…why does he even need to make it so soon anyway?
He sighs, falling back on the ground and letting his eyes stare up at the sky he loves so much.
"There goes my peaceful days. Heh, what was left of them anyway."
Tsuna never notices the shadowy figures in the distance, watching after the very girls he had recently been talking about. Their lurking figures watch closely, with one in particular smiling and watching them ever so intently…
