Warning: Well, none, actually. A little over-dramatic, possibly
"Congratulations," Yellow said, trying to force a smile. It was - it should have been such a happy occasion. Red, handsomer than ever, was beaming in his jet-black wedding suit, stole a glance at his blushing bride. Blue grinned back, pretty and serene and the happiest woman in the world in her elegant white gown. Yet again, Yellow had to remind herself to smile. After all, these were her good friends, and they were so pleased - it just seemed too awful to spoil things. However, it - it just hurt. Every time she smiled. It felt like dragging a dry paintbrush over a canvas to try to make a picture, only that she was the canvas.
"Thanks, Yellow," Red replied. And Yellow couldn't help thinking - again - with her eyes on Blue: that could have been me. She could have married Red. She could have.
She hadn't.
Because, in the end, one-sided crushes don't always work out; dreams don't always come true; silently waiting for your happy ending doesn't always work. And that's why the ecstatic young woman at Red's side was Blue, and not Yellow.
"Why are you upset?"
Yellow started upon catching the whisper at her ear. Bewildered, she turned to face Shadow.
"Upset? What do you mean, upset? I'm not - "
"I can sense it," Shadow hissed, and Yellow remembered her uncanny - almost annoying - extrasensory perception.
Yellow just sighed, not wanting to admit it.
"It's because of Red, isn't it?" Shadow continued under her breath, stating the obvious.
Yellow turned away, not wanting to talk about it. It was pointless now, wasn't it? Everything had been done. There was no going back, no matter how much she wanted to.
A soft hand arrested her progress. She spun around to find herself looking into the intense silver depths of a certain redhead.
"What is it?"
Silver swallowed. "I understand," he said softly.
"Understand?"
He paused to lick his lips. "To - to let go. After you've been used it for so long. It's hard. I mean, Blue was like a sister to me. More than a sister, maybe. It hurts when things change."
Yellow nodded. Only that she'd never thought of Red as her sibling.
"And - well, there's nothing we can do about it."
From the corner of her eye, Yellow could see the happy couple move on the greet the other wedding guests. What would it be like, she wondered, at her own wedding? But only if she'd ever have a wedding.
"I - I just - " Silver was still staring at her intensely, and suddenly his pale face flushed a deep red. He took a deep breath. "I'd just like you to know that - well - if you ever need anything, I'll - I'll always be there for you."
He quickly let go of her and walked away.
It took a while for realisation to sink into her, but as soon as she understood, she was running after him, calling, "Wait - wait!"
