They are not different. They never have and they never will be. The Rurouni and the Battousai are the same, my love. I now laugh at myself when I remember to be so frightened of "Battousai" when you fought Saito. That was not "Battousai." No, that was simply you falling into insanity, and I almost lost you. Saito was falling into that state as well. You both had been consumed by bloodlust.

As I watch, your eyes light up when our son drags you from your precious laundry to play. I smile. I love your eyes for the very reason you hate them. Your eyes show your passion, your love, your hate, and your hurt. You do not mind your violet eyes, for they hide the fury you hold within you. But I see them as the side of you that is kind and loving. Your gentle side of you that hates violence and wishes for a world of peace that you fought for.

But you hate it when your eyes turn amber, a reminder of your past of death and insanity…of Battousai. I shake my head. No, that is not true, for I, who was once afraid of them, love this color as much as I love your peaceful violet. Your eyes turn amber when passion fills your soul or when one of whom you love is in danger. Your amber eyes are not evil. No, they simply reveal the deep emotions within you, my husband. For, when our son was born, your eyes gave an amber twinge when you promised to protect him with your life. Your eyes turned every time you saved my life or flicker every time we make love.

No, anata. There has never been the rurouni or Battousai. You have simply named facets of your being. Together they make you, my love.

My Kenshin.

I was getting tired of reading fics that push that Kenshin has a multiple personality disorder. No, he does not! He's just Kenshin and the more I read the manga, the more I see that. His eyes turn amber when he's training with Hiko, who says with a smile his eyes haven't changed. (This is not during the final technique scene.) His eyes also change when Yatsume attacks Kaoru, and Kenshin jumps into save her. Yatsume says, "I see your eyes still change color when it comes to women." It really is just a side effect of Kenshin becoming passionate with his emotions.

So…yeah. I kind of wanted to show that here. I have more on my profile to explain my view, but I was just getting irritated with all those fics. And when Yahiko says Kenshin beat the Battousai, he's just saying he beat the insanity of Battousai. Kenshin is still Kenshin, Battousai or not. I suggest to you people to reread the manga where he is Battousai as a young man, and see how similar he is to the Kenshin of the present. He's just younger with…ahem…shall we say…slightly immature. He's only fifteen! Geez people.

Okay gosh I ramble.
