~ Two Months Ago ~
The guards body dropped to the ground, as the White Canary snuck up behind him and wrapped a poisonous cloth around his mouth.
"I'm in," the blonde woman said into her coms.
"Great," Hawkgirl replied. "We're right behind you." She and Hawkman were on the roof, over looking Lex Corp's building. Everything appeared to be quiet...for now.
The White Canary smirked to herself and ran down the hallway. "Excellent. This'll be fun."
"You and I have a different definition of fun," the Atom commented. He was flying through the vents in tiny form, waiting for the White Canary to get to the computer to tell him which room he needed to go to.
"Yeah," White Canary said. "Mine is kicking ass. Yours is you and Mick in the kitchen -"
"Sara!" Captain Cold scolded. He was on the other side of the building with Heat Wave, making sure no guards came down her way.
"What?" The White Canary laughed. "I was gonna say baking cookies!"
"I'm sure you were," Jax said. He was standing guard at the opposite end of the building, holding some random gun Cisco had made him a few months ago. It had been years since Stein's death, but he was only just now getting back onto the battle field. It felt strange not being able to merge with the old man...
"Anyway, moving on..." Hawkman said.
"Agreed!" Steel nodded, standing next to Jax. His skin was made entirely out of steel, hence the code name Steel.
The White Canary paused in front of a metal door. She tried prying it open, but it wouldn't budge. "Remind me again why we didn't take the man or woman of Steel?"
"Hey what about me?" Nate whined. But the other Legends just ignored him.
"Luther keeps Kryptonite all over the building," the Atom said. "Kara and Clark can't get in."
"Oh right." The White Canary plucked a Bobby pen from her hair and picked the doors lock, before continuing down the hall way. She turned left, when the hall came to an abrupt curve. Then, she walked into the small office with only a desk inside. She went over to the computer and started searching through the files.
"Okay," she told her team. "I've got the map up. Ray, the room you're looking for is on the second floor. Third room on the right."
"Got it," the Atom nodded and started flying that way.
"Okay, Leonard, Mick, get ready," the White Canary said into their coms. "Alarms might be tripped."
"Such little faith," the Atom sighed.
"Hey, I said might."
The Atom flew his way into the room the White Canary had instructed him. He landed on the ground, before changing back to his normal size and looking around.
The room was huge with lots of computers and other high tech machines attached to experimental weapons. Mostly guns that could disintegrate a person in one shot. Very dangerous. Ray's job was to see to it that these weapons didn't get out to the public and cause panic.
He walked over to the first set of weapons and examined them. They looked like regular simplistic guns, but he knew better. He'd seen the way Lex Luther had tested them on that family a few weeks ago. The guns had vaporized them into thin air.
He was just about to pull the plug, when the alarms started blaring, alerting security.
"See?" Captain Cold said. "This is why we said might." The Atom could almost see the annoyed expression he was undoubtedly wearing.
"It wasn't me!" The Atom insisted.
"Sure," Heatwave nodded, as a swarm of guards charged him and Captain Cold. "Whatever you say, Haircut."
The Atom rolled his eyes and gave up. There was no way he was going to win this argument. Besides, he had machines to break.
Hawkman and Hawkgirl broke through the glass dome of the roof, literally diving into battle, as their wings extracted from their bodies. Lex Corp's had a surprisingly large number of guards.
The hawk warriors fought back to back - Kendra swinging and slashing her knife; Carter smacking the guards with his mace, knocking them out cold.
"Jax, Nate," The White Canary said, running down the halls so she could join the fight. "Go help Ray. He'll need someone to guard him while he finishes with the weapons."
She slid on the ground, passing Leonard and Mick, who were firing their heat and cold guns at the guards. When Sara was well out of range, she jumped up, kicking and punching guards.
"Got it!" Nate replied. "Wait what about Carter and Kendra?"
"We got it, just go!" Carter told them.
Nate and Jax ran down the hall, bursting into the room a second later to see the Atom working on shutting down the machines.
"Hey, Jax, Ray nodded."Nate." The other two men nodded back in response. They went over to guard the door, while the Atom went around the room disabling the machines. One by one. It was taking forever.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the building the White Canary was blowing through the guards like a mad woman. Hitting them with the butt of her bow staff. Kicking them in their soft spots.
"They've contacted the Legion," Kendra said urgently. "They could be here any minute!"
"Shit," Sara cursed. "Ray, how's it coming?"
Ray disconnected another table full of weapons. There were still at least twenty more to go. Guards had broken in now. Nate started punching them, and Jax began shooting them in their kneecaps.
"There are a lot of machines," Ray pointed out. He moved to the next one and started to disable it.
"I still say it would be easier if we just blew it up," Mick commented.
"Well we don't want to get caught in the aftermath," Kendra pointed out. "Some of us would like to not burn to death!"
Ray ignored them and continued disabling machines one by one. Nate and Jax, so far, were keeping the guards at bay. But who knew how long they could keep it up.
Back in the other room, Carter and Kendra had managed to make their way over to the others. Legion members had began showing up now. Hawkman charged the villains with his mace, whacking them in the heads. Hawkgirl and the White Canary were fighting side by side now, slashing and kicking and punching.
Heatwave and Captain Cold stood by the door way, blasting them with fire and ice. They would punch anyone who got too close, knocking them out. But a few Legion members managed to get past them.
"There's too many of them!" Sara yelled. "We have to -" She ducked as Damion Darhk shot a random blast of magic her way. "Son of a bitch." She charged at him, raising her bow staff high above her head, bringing it down a moment later and making contact with his chest.
The blow knocked him back a few steps, but other than that he appeared unharmed.
"Hello again, Sara." He pushed her back with his magic. Sara didn't respond. She just pounced, locking herself into combat, letting all her League of Assassins training come out. He blocked most of her attacks with magic, but that didn't stop her from trying to kill him...again.
Carter ran to help Kendra, who had gotten herself into a fight with the Scarecrow and Riddler. The Riddler fired shots from his question mark shaped guns, asking random riddles no body cared enough to answer. The Scarecrow attempted to shoot his fear gas in Kendra's face, but she kicked it out of his hands.
Carter punched the Riddler in the face and then proceeded to hit him with his mace.
Leonard and Mick were being swarmed with Legion members, most of which they couldn't name. The Legion had gotten quite big over the years.
"Damnit Palmer," Leonard said, shooting icy blasts at the villains. "What the hell is taking so long?!"
"Little busy," came Ray's response. And then the coms went dead.
"...Damnit," Snart cursed again.
"Go!" Sara told them, still locked in combat with Darhk. "We'll hold them off!"
Leonard and Mick took off down the halls.
Back in the weapons room, the Atom, Nate, and Jax were locked in combat with several guards and Legion members. Ray had given up on trying to disable all the machines. It was taking too long and there was no way Nate and Jax could hold them all off.
After Snart had spoke to Ray, Nate suddenly turned and smashed everyone's coms under his steel foot.
"Uh...Nate?" Ray said, confused.
"Why did I do that?" Nate asked, looking just as confused.
"That would be because of me!" A man stepped into the light, grinning broadly. His eyes had a wild light about them that let you know he was truly insane. He had dark messy hair, plastered all over his face. A face that Ray recognized. Xavier Xander.
He had joined the Legion a few years ago, when they'd first started gathering new members. With his abilities he'd force people do things - rob banks, kill their neighbors. He was one of the Legion's most valuable members. He was also the biological father of his son.
"Shit," Ray cursed.
"You know him?" Jax asked, sensing there had to be more between them than just the Legends and the Legion.
"He's Ethan's biological father," Ray told him.
Xavier giggled, as insane people do. "That I am."
"He wants custody," Ray explained, not taking his eyes off the crazy man. "He's probably here to kill me and Mick."
"Oh, I'm not going to kill you," Xavier shook his head. Then he gave a devious look at Nate and Jax. "They are."
He raised his hands above his head, moving them about like one would do when controlling a puppet. Jax and Nate moved, responding to his movements. Jax shot at Ray with his gun, and Nate swung his metal fists at his face.
Jax found himself wishing Professor Stein was still alive. As annoying as he had been, when they were merged together, he usually always knew what to do, especially in situations like these.
Ray shrank down, avoiding Jax's bullets, but now he had to run across the room to stay away from Nate's foot, which was trying to squish him like a bug.
Ray ran. "Aaah!"
"Sorry, dude!" Nate yelled down at him, trying to control his body.
Ray grew back to normal size again, hiding behind a shelf. Immediately, the Puppet Master started controlling Jax again, making him shoot at Ray once more.
"Wait! He can only control one of us at time!" Nate said, realizing he could feel his toes and fingers.
"Well...punch him or something!" Jax said.
As the fight for control over his body continued, Mick and Leonard ran into the room, firing their way through the guards, who had decided to stop attacking once Xavier had entered the room.
Now they attacked again, charging Captain Cold and Heatwave. Most of them, however, were shot down by a stream of fire or ice. Mick scowled when he spotted Xavier. "You," he growled.
"Yes," Xavier grinned wickedly. "Me. Hello." He made Jax fire at Mick and Leonard. But they expertly dodged out of the way, before they could be hit.
Mick charged Xavier a second later, slamming into him with all his strength. The effort nocked them both to the floor, making Xavier lose his hold on Jax.
He instantly ran over to the Atom, making sure he and Nate hadn't hurt him too badly. Luckily, he appeared alright. Jax helped him up.
Mick was still on the ground, punching Xavier in the face, making sure he didn't get up again. Leonard was firing cold beams at the guards. Nate, Jax, and Ray ran over to help him.
"You can't win, you know," Xavier said, when Mick had finally stopped punching him. "All of this is futile. All of you so called Legends will be dead soon. The Legion will take over. But most importantly I'll have my son!"
Mick made an irritated noise, before punching him again, nocking him out. "He is not your son." He punched the other man again just for good measure. Then he grabbed his heat gun and joined the others.
"There's still a lot of machines left," Ray was saying, firing at the guards with his super suit.
"Leave them," Leonard told him. "There's too many of these guys, we'll never get the job done like this!"
"He's right, we need to go," Jax agreed, taking down two guards, shooting them in their kneecaps.
"Not quite yet," said a voice from behind them. Xavier stood with one of the remaining functional weapons. Evidently he wasn't as knocked out as Mick thought he was.
The four men, turned to face him. The guards had turned and fled at the sight of Xavier holding the gun, clearly not wanting to accidentally get caught in the cross fire. Smart.
Jax, Mick, and Leonard raised their guns, aiming them at Xavier's head.
"That won't work," Xavier shook his head at Leonard and Mick. "I did my homework. You can't cross streams. Therefore , you can't both shoot me!"
"Wanna bet?" Mick glared at him. Xavier gave him a cunning look in return.
"Actually..." he said. "I think I do." He moved to pull the trigger. But something strange happened. Mick blinked for a second. Then everything was different. Or, at least, he thought it was different. (He'd never been very good at paying attention to details.)
The gun Xavier was holding was bigger, bulkier. Instead of the thin laser like all the other guns fired, this gun shot a massive whirlpool of green mist. Xavier seemed as confused as Mick felt, but he kept firing anyway. Somewhere in the distance, someone shouted, "No!"
Followed by another someone yelling at them to be quiet. (Or maybe that was Mick's imagination.)
The mist made its way over to Ray, wrapping around him like a vine on a tree.
Within a few seconds, the Atom was gone. He had been vaporized from existence. The other men stared at the spot he'd once been in shock. Ray Palmer was dead.
Leonard looked at his friend, and instantly knew he was about to do something stupid. "Mick -"
Too late. Mick had already started shooting his heat gun at Xavier. The crazy man, however, ran from the room using a door at the opposite end of the large room. Mick didn't stop though. He kept spraying heat waves all over the room, causing a large fire. It was already starting to spread to other parts of the building. They'd all die too if they stayed there.
"Mick!" Leonard yelled. "Stop!" He went over to him, when he refused to listen, and smacked the heat gun out of his hands. "We need to go!"
"Wait, I heard people," Nate said. He nodded to a near by closet. "We need to save -" He stopped abruptly. When he opened the closet, it was empty, except for a bucket and a mop.
"There's no one here!" Leonard told him. "Let's go!" As they ran from the room he spoke into the coms, "Sara, Mick started a fire. We need to leave."
"Is that why I smell smoke?" Sara's response came. "Okay, we'll meet you back at the Waverider."
Leonard and Jax practically had to drag Mick out of the building. He was seething with anger. The fire was spreading quickly. Smoke was filling the air. But thankfully all the Legends managed to make it out alive. Well...almost all the Legends anyway...
So, I'm finally getting around to posting what I have for the second draft here on FFN. (The process is a lot more work than Wattpad okay? Don't judge me!) Anyway, I didn't do much changing here, because I mostly like this. The real changes will start next chapter.
