Maya awoke from her dream. It had been pretty strange. She was a Ponyta, and she was being chased by a group of Wartortle. The clock on her bedside table said 7:30am. She pushed back the covers of her Pokemon bed, and stumbled along to the shower.
The little Pichu that was asleep on the end of her bed woke up too. It had a large blue bow around it's neck, that was very uncomfortable. It tried to pull it off, but fell off the bed.
From the bathroom, Maya heard the thud. Then she remembered; today was her thirteenth birthday! She had reached the age of consent that her parent had set! She could begin her Pokemon journey!
She ran back into her room, and nearly stood on the little yellow bump on her floor. She picked it up, and giggled as the Pichu struggled with the bow.
"Here," she said, and she untied the bow. Pichu shook it's head, and then said, "Pi!" Maya giggled again, and then went to the other presents on the end of her bed.
From Prof. Oak, she had received a Pokedex and fifty Pokeballs. Her brother, Liu, had given her a battle simulator that predicted the effects of an attack. Liu was eighteen, a Pokemon Master already, and was currently in Jhoto. Her mom and dad had given her Pichu, and four Pokeballs. Maya opened them, and four Eevee popped out.
"Ee!" they exclaimed, and Pichu hopped down to greet them. But Maya's best gift was from her rich uncle. She had never met him, but he sent her a month's supply of Rare Candies, $15,000 and a full set of stones. She picked up the Water, Thunder and Fire stones in turn, to let the light shine through them and make colours on the wall. She traced the pattern on the Leaf stone, and let the Everstone's smooth texture slip between her fingers.
After she had gotten ready in her usual outfit of jeans and a black t-shirt, with her long black hair twisted into a plait, Maya pranced downstairs with Pichu on her shoulder and the Eevee dancing behind her. She had already packed all her things in her big red bag, and joined her family at the table for her special Birthday Breakfast, which consisted of treacle pancakes and a huge slab of cake. Then her dad gave her another present: five packs of Pokefeed. Once she had bid goodbye to everyone, she set off down the winding road towards Viridian City!
