Siren's Monologue
In the horizon, I spy something that can be deliciously entertaining. The blessed winds, oh so favorable today, bring the ship ever closer. I feel a smirk grace my face and turn to my sister, who has also spotted he ship. We hungrily await the craft's arrival; wait for our day's fill.
The wind falls silent, as if mocking our desire for the ship. My grin turns into a grimace as I curse the winds within the sanction of my mind. By the look on my sister's face, I believe that she is doing the same. Sluggishly, the boat pushes onward, powered by rowers now that the sails have no effect. My sister is agitated by this useless creeping, but I wait patiently. As the ship nears us, I shoot my sister a look. Wordlessly, we agree that now is the time to act.
From our lips a song so sweet and intoxicating is let loose; a song that many others through the years have fallen victim to. The vessel, drawing closer, refuses to turn our way. Angering, my sister and I bring forth notes so powerful a nearer man would collapse from the sheer power it weilded. The ship still maintains its course.
The rowers completely ignore us, and this enrages me, but I see that their leader can hear us. To him, my sister and I sing promises of wisdom and charm. Though he hears us, he cannot come to us for he is bound, by his own men, to his ship.
The craft is sailing off. Our voices strain to reach the ears of the rowers, but they hear nothing; they simply pulled away. Our song dies in our throats as disbelief overpowers us. One got away. My mind blanks. A ship successfully escaped us. My sister's face appears as blank as my own, preventing me from reading her.
They escaped from us, as none had done before.
