Evenings

Captain Jack Harkness has seen many things. He's watched his brother be taken away from him, his father die, and his mother shatter. He's seen the end of the world, the stars go out, and the death of the Earth. He's even visited far-out galaxies, the past, the future (although for him, future and past are a bit (a lot) blurred) and the TARDIS. He's met three incarnations of the Doctor, Daleks, Cybermen, Slitheen, and a lot of different alien species. He's avoided himself many times and he's died. A lot.

Yes, Jack has seen many things, done many things, met many things. One thing Jack hasn't seen, however, is the creation of the univers or the beginning of Earth, or the first organisms crawl from the water. He certainly hasn't lived through that. He's not that old. So when Ianto asks him if he's done such a thing, he can't help being offended.

"How old do you thinkg I am?" he asks of his... boyrfriend? Partner? Lover? Ianto blinks up at him from his position on Jack's shoulder.

"I don't think you want to know."

The next day, Jack fixedly ignores the gray hair he finds.

Ianto amusedly points it out that evening.

"Vain," he comments fondly at Jack's indignant denials.

He's not vain either.

Ianto Jones really is terrible for his ego.

Not that he has one, of course.

"RIght?" he asks Ianto.

"Of course not."

Jack pointedly ignores the patronizing tone Ianto uses, though he does pout a bit.

The Welshman is very glad to point that out.

Jack pouts even more.

Still, he later reflects as a sleeping Ianto rests on his chest, it's rare to have evenings like these recent ones. Ianto's rather adorable when he gets relaxed enough to have them. Not, of course, as adorable when he's asleep, but it's a close call.

The Welshman wakes up breifly and, with a tired glare and a thick Welsh accent brought on by tiredness, blue eyes half-lidded and dark hair mussed, orders Jack to stop thinking so loudly and go to sleep. Then he promptly falls into unconsciousness again.

No, Jack thinks as he closes his eyes, Ianto is at his most adorable half-asleep and bossy. He says so quietly aloud, and he can feel the glare Ianto gives him through closed lids.

"Adorable."

His reaction to the soft blod to his chest is to pull the Welshman closer.

Ianto can win this time.
