AN: This is the first in a series of episode rewrites. I'm basically retelling episodes that I feel could have been handled in a better way. This story rewrites the episode "Come Out Where Ever You Are." No Predator subplot to ruin what was already a good plot line. It basically hinted that Robotnik wanted to use the ball as a trap for Sonia and does nothing with it. Seriously we spend 15 minutes building up this big romantic dance and get nothing. I will be using the godfather/godson relationship for Robotnik and Bartleby. I may actually expand this into a full-on Romeo and Juliet style love story.

Part 1

In Robotnik's Palace

"All the preparations have been made, sire." A handsome mink told the current ruler of Robotropolis. "And may I say, on behalf of the aristocracy, thank you for allowing us the use of the ballroom that evening."

Robotnik waved the thanks away. "Anything for my godson, brat, you know that. Indulge me, do you plan to bring anyone special?"

Bartleby shrugged. "I do plan to ask a certain young lady. I can only hope she accepts.

"If she doesn't, she's an utter fool," the despot told his godson. "Now, off you get, we both have work to do." Bartleby left, missing the sneer on Robotniks face. "This has to work. She'll fall for the trap and I will have beaten Queen Aleena at last."

In their current hideout, Sonia sat on her bed. She looked at the invitation she had found, mysteriously, on her bed.

She remembered her foster mother talking endlessly of her own debutante ball. She had been preparing Sonia for her on for the last 18 years, even after Bartleby's proposal.

She sighed and stuck the invitation in her pocket. There was no way she could go. For many reasons, not the least of which was the danger of capture. But oh how she wanted to go. She wanted to dance cheek to cheek with her former fiancé. She wanted to pretend for a brief few hours that life could be as it once was.

"But it can't be." She reminded herself. "Bartleby and I are over. I'm not a noble anymore, I'm a fugitive princess, a Freedom Fighter. I can't go to the dance and I should just get over it."

Back at his mansion, Bartleby wondered if Sonia had gotten her invitation yet. He wondered if it was too soon to call her mobile and ask her to the ball.

He stood before his mirror. "My dear Sonia, would you do me the honor of allowing me to...no that's not right. Sonia, my sweet, please allow me...oh why is this so hard." Before she joined the Resistance, he wouldn't have even needed to ask. She was his fiancé, it was only natural they would go together. But then she had broke it off after she met her brothers. "It's not fair! I love her as much as they do. Perhaps more! Why should we have to suffer because of this stupid war?"

AN: A short first chapter, asking some pretty interesting questions. Yes, I do plan on using my "Robotnik is not entirely the villain" thing here. Every other story you read will have him an inevitable villain. I dare to be different. Let me know what you think.
