It's not too great, but oh well. I don't own HSM.

Picture day at East High was a flurry of activity excitement for everyone except Kelsi Nielsen. Picture day meant cute clothes, flawless makeup, and a way to preserve your identity for the rest of the year. Picture day defined who you were. Troy Bolton, for example. Last year's yearbook showed Troy smiling easily, the kind of All-American grin that was the epitome of the Golden Boy of East High. And Sharpay. Sharpay always had her head up, eyes staring straight into the camera, with a self-satisfied smirk playing on her lips. Classic drama queen.

But Kelsi? She had no idea who she was. She wasn't completely in the Wildcats' inner circle yet, like Gabriella and Taylor. And she wasn't fully focused on the arts, like Ryan and Sharpay. So what did that make her?

It was time. The photographer beckoned her to stand. She got up from where she was sitting and walked over to the designated spot.

"All right. One."

The camera lens was aimed at her. Kelsi forced a smile. She felt fake.

"Two."

Out of the corner of her eye Kelsi saw Ryan Evans give her an encouraging thumbs-up. She blushed. Since when did Ryan pay attention to her? She smiled. Really. Truly. Genuinely. She couldn't help but smile.

"Three."

Click.

And when they got their yearbooks later in the year, everyone complimented Kelsi on her picture. She just thanked them and shared a look with Ryan.

Because lately, everything he did seemed to make her smile.
