Just a short, short story. Read on if you like it, stop if you don't. Simple! :)

And suddenly, it came to her. No wonder Dumbledore made James Potter the Head Boy. She had always believed that his name had just appeared out of the Sorting Hat or something ridiculous, she had never before seen a reason for him to be in such a high position of power. But now she saw, it wasn't necessarily because he was right for the position. It was because the two of them together had the ability to succeed far more than any other pair could.

James Potter was egotistical, rude, carefree and immature. Yet, besides all of that, he was also charismatic, personable, loyal and just fun to be around. James would always be there for anyone who needed his help. James even saved Severus Snape's life when he learned that it was in danger. He could turn the entire Great Hall's attention to himself and make them laugh and put a smile on their faces and honestly, she didn't know many people who could do that. On the other hand, Lily was a straitlaced girl, always on time, she cared about he rules and was nice to every single person she met. But she was shy, a little insecure and sort of a loner.

Together they made a super-person. Separately, sure they were prodigal children, but together they were something else completely. He taught her to relax, stop thinking about only the rules. He helped her capture her peer's attention and say what she had to say, because it was important. He also helped her build her self confidence in so many ways. He told her what he truly thought about her, yeah she had her flaws but she was pretty spectacular. She was the smartest witch in her year and she was most certainly the prettiest, at least according to James. And there was also the time in the library where after they snogged, James had told Lily that no other girl that he had ever kissed, and he had kissed very many, had ever made him feel the way that she did. But that was a little besides the point. Not only that, but Lily had also showed James that following the rules wouldn't kill him, that being the bigger person in an argument showed responsibility and maturity. She showed him how to tone down his loudness and obnoxiousness at the corret times. They helped each other grow into better people. Who else could do all that? What other couple of teenagers could benefit that way and still lead and make decisions for the school?

It was all so clear to her now, everyone had thought that Dumbledore had been insane to pick James Potter. Was his name randomly chosen? Did his parents pay substantial amounts of Wizarding Money as a bribe or as a donation? Or could there really been a good reason? Maybe no one would ever know. Maybe Lily didn't even know for sure. Maybe Dumbledore had a premonition or had seen James carrying a bag of Droobles Best Blowing Gum and since that was his favorite sweet, he just decided then and there. The reasoning behind the situation was a mystery.

But Lily had finally realized that maybe her and James weren't so bad.

Maybe they didn't have the ability to just lead together.

Maybe they also had the ability to be together.

Maybe she would never know.

Maybe she should get off the Common Room couch and find out.
