"I'm only up when you're not down.
Don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground.
It's like no matter what I do.
Well you drive me crazy half the time;
The other half I'm only trying to let you know that what I feel is true.
And I'm only me when I'm with you."

-I'm Only Me When I'm With You by Taylor Swift

"Davies is a prat, forget about him Katie," Fred Weasley muttered into Katie Bell's blond hair.

It was one in the morning on a Sunday and they were the only ones left in the common room. Very lucky for them indeed, if anyone had walked in and seen them embraced like they Fred and Katie would be assumed to be together.

Their position looked very- compromising. Fred was holding hi younger friend around the waist as she sobbed on her robes. She was curled up in a ball on the couch. Katie was so close she was only an inch or two away from being on his lap.

"B-but if he's the prat then why am I crying over him? W-why did he break up with me," Katie cried.

"It shouldn't matter. You're too good for him anyway," Fred whispered comfortingly. He was shocked that half the house wasn't awake yet. She was so loud!

He'd been with her like this for an hour and nothing seemed to be working. Fred had tried everything from making jokes about Roger to threatening to pummel him, honestly he was contemplating the latter secretly in his head.

"Any boy should feel privileged to go out with you," Fred encouraged, pulling Katie away and looking in her blue eyes.

"Why couldn't he though? He's the only boy I want," Katie murmured, biting her lip.

That comment stung Fred's heart deeply, he always knew he cared about Katie than most of his other friends but hadn't realized until this year it was more than platonic. He had hoped he could win her over but Roger got there first.

Just seeing her face tear stained and the big blue eyes he loved so much filled with tears gave him the push he needed. Tomorrow evening he was officially going to pay Davies a 'visit'.

"Katie you shouldn't worry about this, just get some rest," Fred implored softly. He himself was craving sleep.

"I know but I'm going to have nightmares. Roger will probably be in them. What if he says that he doesn't want me? What if he tells me that no one will ever want me," she asked frantically.

Fred placed a finger on her lips. "Don't worry Katie."

"I'll always want you," Fred added with a wink. He meant it in a more than friendly way but it came out platonic and it was enough to get a giggle from her. It made him smile in turn.

"Thank you Fred," Katie said, giving him a quick hug.

"Do you feel better now," he asked.

"A bit, not much though. I'm afraid to stay with you though, I think I might end up using you as a rebound. We all know how you would love that," Katie replied sarcastically.

"Aww you caught me," Fred whined, he really didn't need to act anymore.

"Night," she said and disappeared up the stairs.

Fred snorted before standing up; she had no idea how much he would enjoy being her rebound. Even if he was only that.

I'm so sorry Fred! I keep ripping apart your heart, I feel horrible about it- really.

This is a bit of a prequel to another drabble I submitted called For A Friend. I actually adore the way this piece came out.

I tried to keep Fred in character as much as I could while trying to keep him somewhat serious. I hope I did alright…
