Wandering Hope

Chapter 1-Ponderings of the Gate

The gate was a subject that had always caused Edward Elric to have a great headache. He usually kept his thoughts to himself, seldom revealing himself to Alphonse. Al had enough to worry about without his older brother telling him his long list of grievances. Their previous adventures and journeys had always eventually ended up pertaining to the gate. When they tried to bring their mother back from the grave, it sent Al's body through the gate, and two of Edward's limbs as unintentional payment. Later, in an effort to give Alphonse his body back, Edward sacrificed himself to give Al back his lost body, sending Edward to another world.

They were on their way to Munich after just nearly diffusing the problem of the uranium bomb. The brothers had decided to take a break, and try and life a life for themselves. Noah had left them a few days before only uttering words of eventual future meetings.

Now only a few hours to Munich, Ed was starting to get worked up again. He was never sure why he did it to himself. He finally the chance to relax, and he decided to ignore it like usual. Next to him Alphonse was snoring lightly. Pulling out his watch (bitterly reminding him of his old one), Ed realized how late it was and attempted to join his sibling in slumber. He told himself that he would only close his eyes for a little while, but tat was all it took.

A few hours later, the Elric brothers were violently jolted awake. Quietly rousing (and on Ed's part, stifling a yawn) they cautiously made their way off the wagon they had unceremoniously (and unknown to the driver) hitched a ride on. Once they were out of hearing rang, Alphonse spoke.

"Brother, where should we stay tonight? I mean, it's a little to late to check into a-" his pleas were cut off by his ever stubborn brother.

"Al, don't worry about it, I'll make it happen. I don't care if everywhere is closed. We';; find a place to stay. I have a plan…" Edward boldly stated this fact barely registering that he had no such thing.

So until dawn, the fatigue stricken brothers searched for an open inn, completely forgetting 'Edward's plan'. The search ended when they because victorious in their endeavors. However, all the while, they were unaware that their every move was being watched.
