Not the Hero We Expected
Rauru cleared his throat and looked at the young man in front of him. He knew there was no easy way to do this. Perhaps the direct approach would be best.
"Link," he began, then paused. The direct approach? Who was he kidding?? The teenager had defeated Ganon without an overly large amount of trouble. The direct approach was likely to get him killed!
"Yes?" Link prodded after the Sage of Light's long silence.
Rauru almost had a heart attack. 'No. No. Calm, soothing breaths,' he thought. 'In. And out. And in. And out.' There, that was better. Yes, he might be killed for telling the boy directly, but he would definitely be killed for lying. He took a deep, steadying breath.
"I've been going through the old scrolls," he continued, outwardly calm. "It seems there was a little... mix-up about the prophecy concerning you." Rauru paused again, trying to gauge Link's reaction. The young man's eyes had narrowed, and he had positioned himself for easier access to his sword.
Rauru began to sweat. "You see, uh, there was a small type-o when the scroll was copied, and, um..."
"Go on," Link said in a low voice.
"You are not the Hero of Time." Link raised a single, menacing eyebrow. "You are actually the hero of this boy," Rauru finished, opening a small hidden door and revealing a young Hylian.
"Hey! That's the man who got my kitty down from the tree! He's my hero!" the energetic youngster squealed.
Link's eyes became the merest slits. "Rauru, show the kid out," he commanded. The Sage of Light obeyed, smiling nervously at the very dangerous and very angry young man.
"So, destiny's all done with, right?" he asked as he closed the door. "And hey, you even managed to beat Ganon, and don't think we're not grateful and all, even though you really weren't supposed to. And now that you've seen the kid you consider your work done, right? And you don't like all the hero- worship because you're humble and all, so you had me make the boy leave, and not because you're planning on killing me violently for stealing away seven years of your life and sending you on a quest you had no reason to be on, right? Right?"
Link unsheathed his sword. "Wrong."
And in the land of Hyrule, much carnage was had that day. Link's fall from grace was a fast and bloody one, but there was one who would always consider him a hero. It didn't matter how far he strayed or who he killed; one would remember his goodness. Not only for the kitty, but for saving the world from evil as well, for he knew of the battle against Ganon. And in this, destiny was fulfilled. All others would curse his name as the slaughterer of hundreds, but Link would forever remain the hero of one small boy; the Hero of Tim.

A/N: As in the summary, I sincerely apologize for the oddity of this fic. I know it's pretty dumb, but when the fanfic demons attack me, well... Anyway, I'm sorry for any sweatdrops, seizures, or brain damage caused by reading it. If it'll make you feel better to flame me, go right ahead (and if it'll make you feel even better to leave a real review, by all means, do so).
