Clipped Wings

This is the story of our beginning and our end.

I remember like it was yesterday..

The light breeze flowing through my hair, the warmth of sunlight gently caressing my face.

Your soft laughter barely heard by the waves of salt water crashing against sand.

The secrets and stories we shared under the shade of a palm tree while giggling at the curiosity of a seagull.

The warmth of your hand on my head and the beating of your chest that I clutched while crying my sorrows away.

I remember the taste of plums.

"EWW. How can you eat those, they taste like those candies my grandma used to keep around in her purse"

"... I like them."

"Yeah, I know that but I want to know why..?"

"..Be-because someone really special said they give you happiness when you're sad"

"... That's an odd reason.. do you mind if I ask you a question?"

"*giggle* You just did"

"You know what I mean"

"... ok"

"Lilly... why are you sad?"

"..."

"*sigh*"

"..."

"Hey"

"..Hm?"

"Look at all that water"

"... Isn't the ocean so beautiful."

"Yeah.. it is. Just like your eyes.."

...

"W-what?!"

"I'm sorry what? I'm to busy looking at this rock I found"

"Orion you liar!..?!.. What?! Hey, get back here!"

"Only if you catch me first!"

"Why yoouu!"

"Muahahaha! I'm still faster than you shortstack!"

"ARRRGH! I"LL KEEP CHASING YOU EVEN IF IT TAKES ME 1000,000 YEARS!"

Laughing and running... running from what? To preserve our innocence? To run away from the scars of our namesake? From the responsibilities

that were forced down our throats the moment we could utter a single word? Or maybe we were running because we knew. We knew

that we could not escape the greasy and soiled fingers of this broken palace we live in.

Ah, yes. Those were innocent times. Before we knew of harsh realities the world would throw our way. How pure those moments were, so wrapped up in our

own childish happiness. Never knowing that the castle of sand we built would crumble right beneath our feet.
