Disclaimer: I don't own Monk or any of the afflicated characters
For Monk he was not having a good day. It all started when he overslept. He woke up and jumped about a mile with ending by falling out of bad.
"Darn it," he said to himself as he get up.
He realized from the throbbing pain in his ankle that he had sprained his ankle and that was already sore as it was. The noise woke Trudy.
"Honey," she asked him, "are you okay?"
"Just a bit clumsy today," he explained trying to laugh it off
She helped him up
"Adrian," she exclaimed, "your ankle is swollen"
"Yeah I accidentally fell out of bad"
"You stay right here," she admonished, "I'm going to go get you some ice"
"Honey I'm fine"
"STAY right here," she repeated, "sometimes you need to take it easy"
He knew better then to argue with her. She had a way of talking charge. So he just laid back.
She came back seven seconds later with the ice.
Seven seconds, he thought to himself, that's uneven
"Here," she said putting a pillow on the bed for him to prop up his ankle.
"One more pillow please," he whispered
"Sure," she told him. She knew his thing about numbers being even.
She packed the ice where his ankle was sore.
"This," she told him, "should take away the pain and absorb the soreness"
"How did you know that?"
"My friend," she explained, "and I took a class in basic care"
At that very minute the phone rang.
"Hello?"
It was Ambrose. He started rambling on and on about something they talked about several weeks ago
"Ambrose," Adrian told his brother, "it's okay. We had this conversation already… yes I know that… it's okay… it's okay Ambrose… look I have to go now… I'll talk to you tonight"
He hung up the phone a headache throbbing at the base of his neck.
"You okay?"
"My head is really throbbing"
"Com'er," she said and rubbed his head, "you know you are the most amazing man I know"
"Me?"
"Yes you," she said laughing, "you always do what you know is right"
"You are right," he told her seductively
"Not until you're feeling better," she told him firmly
"I'm feeling better. It's a miracle"
"Adrian Nathanial Monk do you see the word gullible written on my forehead," she playfully scolded
He looked at her with a mixture of love and uncertainty in his eyes.
"It's okay," she told him gently, "you don't have to say it. I know"
She took his hand and held it gently kissing him.
"I love you"
He turned to look at her and his ankle moved. He groaned with the pain.
"Don't move," she told him, "that just increases the pain. You should be feeling better by tomorrow but in the meantime you don't have the right to move around"
"Ha-ha very cute," he told her but he was smiling
"I know I'm cute," she told him
"Do I have the right to love you?"
"Always," she whispered, "that's one we both have"
They lay intertwined in each other's arms for a few minutes
"You know," she told him, "a few weeks ago it was like everything in my life seemed out of control"
"Mine too"
"But now that we're together everything is right again"
Monk grinned to himself because he knew that Trudy was right. No matter how bad everything was when they were together they would get through it together.
