Only The Strong Survive

A/N: I wrote this a long time ago, but never got around to posting it. But tonight I was
leafing through an old notebook and found it, so here it is :) Aren't you excited? *hehe*
Please R/R!
I watch them sometimes. Potter, Weasley, and that mudblood Granger. They're
always smiling or laughing about one thing or another. The grins can't be wiped off of
their faces-they're too busy living their so-called "perfect" lives.
But in actuality, their lives aren't perfect. Because eventually, they're all going to
lose, all going to fail. I, on the other hand, am not. I have that perfect life.
My father is an important member of the magical community and a valuable
supporter to the Dark Lord. When He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named makes his return, we
will be safe while so many suffer, all thanks to my father. The man is brilliant.
Sure, he kept me up, crouching behind the door listening for so many nights in my
childhood. I can still hear his harsh yell, the shatter of valuable things being thrown, my
mother's pleas and cries. I remember one night my father was so angry he just left. I had
crept down the stairs, lured by my mother's soft whimpers. She was sitting in a corner,
crying. Tears had streamed down her cheeks, escaping from swelling, lifeless blue eyes.
I'd walked over to her and hugged her-one of the few we'd ever shared.
"Why does he treat you like this?" I'd asked. "Doesn't he love you?"
She didn't reply. Didn't speak.
She still seldom does.
At that moment, I'd hated my father. Hated him more than anything, even more
than the pain-filled life I was forced to endure.
I was seven then.
Now I see that hating him was foolish. He was our key to power, the reason I got
everything I asked for. When He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named returns, our family will be
safe thanks to him.
Yes, he caused my mother many tears.
But she is weak.
Just as Potter, Weasley, and Granger are weak.
But they're all in for trouble.
Because only the strong survive.
